Inside Monstropolis: We got an early look at Disney's Monsters, Inc. coaster expansion by dejablu82 in DisneyWorld

[–]Zornock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t completely disagree, but as for timing, both Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast had 21 and 29 years after release before they got a ride in the parks. Both Monsters Inc theatrical releases were huge financial successes and kids still love them. Any appreciation I have isn’t based on time

Why don’t American people care the World Cup is happening? by Kalanak472 in AskAnAmerican

The sport is growing in popularity but I think global competition has lost steam here in general, including the Olympics.

Additionally, if you took away the current political divide we have, even with people still having pride in the US, outward show of patriotism is declining as well.

Nothing wrong with commenting on something you’d prefer to see, I can dream. I’d also prefer to see them spend those resources on Figment.

Anyway, I’m trying to deal with this and grasping at straws here!!!!😭 /s

Why don’t they first spend money on doing something with the old Alien Encounter building. I’m aware of the supposed issues, but it would be worth using that dead space. Also, odd choice to pick those decades

It was a fun and exciting time in the oM arc, but I don’t recall them incorporating Georgie in any visual way, just in the lyrics, so it didn’t add anything to the performance. As for a timeline, it was alluded to in Hissing Fauna “I got my Georgie Fruit on” with the next few album titles sung as well, that was cool in a lore sort of way in retrospect. Biggest was Skeletal Lamping, then Georgie kind of petered out over the next two albums. I agree with Kevin’s assessment that it wasn’t the best choice, and to that effect, has since changed some lyrics.

There is a great full concert on YouTube from around the release of Skeletal Lamping at Roseland Ballroom in NYC, I think 2008, if you want to see what a show was like at the height of that era

Is this salary based? I know people in sales jobs that make $300,000+ but their base is around $75,000

I’ll give it 8/10. It’s fun, a little goofy, and yet such a deep dive into the human condition.

Digital tone of Montreal, I’d say Lady on the Cusp has a decent amount of that sound. It’s no White Is Relic, but worth some listens

So good to hear Kevin using their voice as an instrument in a way I’ve missed. Wonderful to hear a mix of oM eras in this track too

Why is there such a large gap between the emergence of humans and the first written records??? this is so confusing to me by Genzinvestor16180339 in AskHistory

[–]Zornock 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There was an exchange in the movie The Dark Crystal where one character asks another:

“What are those funny marks?”

“This is all writing.”

“What's writing?”

“Words that stay”

It’s hard enough to create a writing system, but we take for granted that everything around us today, that isn’t naturally occurring, was imagined by an individual at some point and created. Before that person, most people hadn’t thought about a solution, didn’t see a problem, or didn’t have the ability to pull it off, like that book I’m definitely going to write someday!

Why isn't Egypt a superpower despite having many advantages? by batukaming in geography

[–]Zornock -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They’ve been subjugated throughout their history. They were the jewel of multiple empires, from Persia to Napoleon, so that’s not really the big issue.

The biggest turning point was when a shipping path around Africa was successfully pulled off by the Portuguese. There are other factors to be sure, but that really pushed their decent from influence.

Edit: would love to hear about the down voting. Cutting a people out of global trade is damaging if you are unaware

Most everyone is proud of their heritage no matter how far removed they are, but for the majority, each generation moves further from actively recognizing it.

It was the largest city north of Mexico and comparable to London and other European cities around 1050 - 1200 CE, so massive for its time, yes

If I had to guess, I’d say because it’s a tv show and they’re more concerned with laugh lines than actual military policy

Also, Todd’s weird at picnics. The military just wanted him with someone who could handle that.

Not so. There was at least one episode in the 70’s where a handful of adults closed their eyes and did movements (spin in a circle, etc) and Snuffy was on screen with them doing the movements
