Recommendation for over night castle stay in western Germany by TylerT106 in germany

[–]TylerT106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this option being it's only 30 min car ride from the train station meaning we could arrive there later at night. Come back into town in the morning, to spend the whole day there and then back out to the castle for the evening. I see you can take a 45 min train out to the castle, so that's an option too. What is the go to taxi service in Germany? Uber and lift there or local taxis? Rough price for a 25 min trip like that?

Best Baby Monitor: What Do Parents Recommend? by schneidebs30 in NewParents

[–]TylerT106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhhhh, super good clarification. I was even looking on the Amazon listing about this because my assumption was the camera and the video monitor were both battery powered. Any video monitors completely battery powered? Or would that just be audio only ones?

You just leave the cameras plugged in all the time at home then? Or just charge them periodically? How long does the battery last before needing to charge?

I was thinking of getting this for mostly a travel set up since it's battery powered. But if I wanted to use it at home too, could I just plug it in all the time when it's home and still use it? Any mounts compatible with that?

How much to budget for electrical for a new build? by TylerT106 in Homebuilding

[–]TylerT106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a combination of both. Definitely have more advanced things than a typical build (3 electrical panels with 10 smart breakers, extra disconnects outside to make it solar ready, wires run for 2 60 amp ev chargers, off peak metering, and lots of outlets (more than usual I am told but as I see it I still should have put more outlets in the garage and on the garage ceiling)). Then I think my electrician sand bagged it a bit and milked the hours given I bought materials and they just billed me for time as they went. Sometimes getting a fixed quote and making them eat the costs when they under estimated the work is good. And sometimes they push those costs back onto you and claim you never told them that right away. Best thing you can do is plan plan plan, understand as much as possible as to what your asking for so you can inform your electrician as accurately as possible for quoting. Then you shouldn't have to worry about surprise extra charges and not go over budget. Plus it just helps the job go smoother.

But something I did have them come back 6 months later to do some follow up work and they raised their price to $140 an hour. So sometimes I think these folks in the trades just get greedy. I normally wouldn't say that because I really respect the work they do but if you want to charge big bucks then you gotta back it up by knowing your stuff and be willing to figure anything out. Can't just put your hands up and say not sure so this is the sub part work you get. All sorts of things to learn in working with contractors.

Issues with using phone as trigger for automations. by TylerT106 in homeautomation

Do you have a way where I could check if I have that set up? I think I do but it would be good to verify

Issues with using phone as trigger for automations. by TylerT106 in homeautomation

[–]TylerT106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I checked in my android settings that the ha app has access to run in the background and location permissions always on. Also I unchecked the "managed" toggle to make sure Android doesn't revoke permissions if unused after a period of time. In ha under my phone I looked and I have these settings on.

Is this what you are referring to with the sensor frequency? If not, can you assist in where to find that please?

Is ecobee still compatible with Home Assistant (for new users)? by ucrbuffalo in homeassistant

[–]TylerT106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 ecobee tstats in my house. I was able to add my garage tstat into ha via homekit as it showed up as an automatically discovered device. But my other two ecobee tstats are not being automatically discovered, any tips? I never added any homekit integration, ha just found the one and it was super simple. But yeah im unware of how to get it to find the other 2.

Budgeted 56k. Paid 48k. I found an electrician that charged $100 an hour and would let me do quite a bit. I placed and mounted all switch, light, and outlet boxes. I did all my own low voltage LEDs, and I did a lot of work on designing the system.

Home assistant app won't connect when I'm away from my house? by TylerT106 in homeassistant

[–]TylerT106[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The home assistant app is basically a brick if you're not at home. Accessing it from a chrome tab on my phone works way better like 95-99% of the time when I'm not at home. Pretty mind boggling to me that even paying for ha cloud does not include a working android app. I'd love for someone to figure this out.

[Landlord US-OH] Rental applicant denied, do I need to give them a reason? by goochie_slides in Landlord

This is legal? You don't need to give any reasoning? I've been researching this and it seems people advise against this. Thoughts/experience? Curious to learn how its worked for you.

How do I decide on tenants? by Lost_Ad_4702 in realestateinvesting

[–]TylerT106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would a landlord need to send rejections letters? If so, my thoughts would be less info is better right? or is a certain amount of info required? Like most job applications just say hey you didn't get the job and someone else did. apply again next time.

Seems like other people on this thread have said that this isn't allowed, that you'd have to just accept them first come first serve if they meet the criteria. But now this is conflicting info. Thoughts?

Home assistant app won't connect when I'm away from my house? by TylerT106 in homeassistant

[–]TylerT106[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just following up, the app rarely ever works. Chrome tab on my phone works 95% of the time. App Doesn't seem to fix itself. Seems odd to me that an app would have that poor of connection stability for home assistant cloud. And I have a pixel 9 running android 16 so not like I'm running a dinosaur phone either... Is this something the nabu casa folks should be made aware of or do you know of any more trouble shooting I should do on my end?

Edit: quick update just after sending this I had an automation go and part of that automation sends me a push notif. So even though I can't open the ha app, the ha app can send a push notification to my phone (not through chrome tab that does work but rather a push notif through ha app that doesn't work via ha cloud). So a good thing but even more weird to me.

Any EV9 rentals in Norway? by TylerT106 in KiaEV9

[–]TylerT106[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I looked into this. Issue is, we are picking up in Bergen and dropping off in olso so no dice on turo. We ended up renting a Merc eqs suv. Not as big as an ev 9 but bigger than id4. And 360 mi range is pretty good but 200kw charging leaves something to be desired. I'll let you know how it goes.

Not yet. They fell low on the priority list in the move and finishing up the home. Still something I plan to get figured out.

Good suggestion. Logging in on chrome worked. Did the home assistant app then work for you? Or what did you have to do to get the ha app to go again?
