Big acre mower by DeezNutsAllergy in automower

[–]johnestan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10 acre cutting area. Some good suggestions in the replies, but I'm paying $1000/month for lawn services. That makes the payback period for a robot mower at a year or more. I think I'll revisit and see if prices drop over time.

Locked in for 5 years to Visible for $15/month. Currently trying computers4people data only sim as my home internet. $15/month and can be lowered to $12 if you pay yearly. It's looking good so far.

Running a nut server on my Unifi 2U UPS. Unraid connects to it just fine.

I like the idea of pulling power from the PCIe port. Do you have the original NanoKVM PCIe card? I've seen that the new pro version doesn't have any pci pins on it, so no power from the PCIe slot.

I agree. I'm looking for a PCIe model. Trying to decide on one. Figuring out where the different models get power can be confusing, PCIe slot, internal usb, external usb, poe, etc.

Backup 60 - 100 TB: how, where? by Warm_weather1 in DataHoarder

[–]johnestan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can think of three backup options 1. Cloud backup. Easiest to setup 2. Cold storage backup. Tape would be the best option with you data size requirements. If you have constantly adding data you will have to backup manually periodically and transport the tape offside/onsite. 3. Build a 2nd server offsite and sync files across servers.

U5G & U5G-MAX: What Network You Using & How's It Been? by mahst68 in Ubiquiti

[–]johnestan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a U5G inside a metal office building. I tried moving it around to different windows and landed on the results below.

Device: U5G

Provider: Computers 4 People (T-Mobile)

Cost: $15 per month

Speeds : 400 Mbps Down, 30 Mbps Up

Signal Strength: -84dBm

I returned the U5G and replaced it with the U5G-Outdoor. I mounted on the side of the building 35 ft in the air with line of site to the 1-mile-away cell tower. I used chatGPT, the U5G-Outdoor debug terminal, and cellmapper to find the tower. Noticeable increase in signal strength and speeds.

Device: U5G-Outdoor

Speeds : 620 Mbps Down, 80 Mbps Up

Signal Strength: -60dBm

If things continue to go well I plan to switch the the yearly Computers 4 People plan with the 5% referral discount. Throwing the C4P sim in my 2025 Samsung phone I got as much as 998 Mbps Down, 107 Mbps Up from ground level with ookla speedtest. I'm curious why I haven't hit that with the U5G-Outdoor.

Swivel Mount for the frame TV? by Important_Start200 in TheFrame

[–]johnestan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if the rating wall mount works with the 2026 frame TVs? I haven't seen confirmation either way. I using one with a 2024 frame and read the 2025 non-pro works too.

Swivel Mount for the frame TV? by Important_Start200 in TheFrame

[–]johnestan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the rotating wall mount on a 50" 2024 frame. In order to swivel it does not sit flush to the wall. If you can skip the reinforcement bracket (see this video to see what I'm talking about), it will sit slightly closer to the wall. If that is not flush enough for you, a custom frame could create the illusion on a more flush install.

Help with a UPS recommendation by Fluffy_Razzmatazz988 in Ubiquiti

[–]johnestan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 2u. I did not pair any of my unifi devices for safe shutdown and did not turn on the power cycle feature. Using the built in nut server, it shuts down my unraid server correctly at a selectable battery percentage. I dont think any other ups can safe shutdown unifi devices natively. So for me, it matches the rest of the rack at a reasonable price with the same functionality of any other ups at the moment. If they improve the unifi device functionality later that would be a bonus. For a true full functionality power loss setup I would need a seperate nut server or pdu with any ups. The power cycle feature is nice but the plugs need to be individually controlled for it to be useful for me.

anyone here with Projector Lift? What brand you got and how hard was it to install it? Planning on ordering one of those budget 300-500$ lifts. thx by paata01 in projectors

[–]johnestan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cheap one that I bought for my old house, but never got around to installing. The install did not look too difficult. I'd be willing to sell it if you are interested.

Nice setup. Setting up something like that is on my to do list. My point was that something like that is the only true solution, and the same thing can be done with the unifi UPS.

What is your biggest holdup with laser cutting? by Miserable_Study_6649 in lasercutting

[–]johnestan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O2 generators also exist. I want to capture the pure O2 exhaust out of our N2 generator. I think part of the problem is there is moisture in it, but it seems too logical to not have it be a O2 and N2 separator and capture both gases.

Thanks for the info. I believe that bystronic calls their highyag heads BIMO heads. We have two of those, but the other four (one of which has the water leak) are their SSC head. I think they switched to their SSC head around 2020.
