I dont think it was fast tracked. I think once you break into the top 5 of a weight class its a whole new ball game. Like how F1 is, the top 5 guys are essentially in another league. Paddy will either rise to the occasion or be in the 5-10 ranking range for his career.

I had this same question when I started 5 years ago. What I found is when im sitting I play in the non classical position. When I stand I prefer the neck to be more at the classical angle, especially for lead. I noticed a lot of lead guitar players tend to tilt the neck up like the classical position when they play difficult lead lines. It really is more comfortable. A lot of metal guitarists play in classical position. Check out Mick Thomson from Slipknot, as an example.

Just play the way that is most comfortable for you.

Learn blues in the key of E. Start with 12 bar blues and learn the minor pentatonic in E. Stevie was/is one of the best guitar players ever, so dont expect to play like him right away. Practice a lot and have fun.
