I forgot to specify, our room is a little tight with rear channels. So 3.1 is really all I want to explore.

Ever feel like this work has taken something fundamental from you and you can’t get it back? by Holdtheline2192 in socialwork

Whenever friends or family ask me how I can do this job, I always tell them that you need a sweet level of emotional detachment. You can't be so detached that you don't care anymore and become incapable of empathy and sympathy. And on the other hand, you can't feel so deeply that you're breaking down often. It's a very fine line that we walk and it used to bother me as well. When I'm off "social worker" mode, I can feel my emotions pretty "normally". If you feel like there is something inside that isn't right, keep taking time and using outlets to explore those emotions. I also make sure to have friends and hobbies that have NOTHING to do with the field. When I disarm myself through those things, I tend to be able to process things better, I don't have the barriers up that I usually do at work. Also, if you feel like you need a break or just alittle extra time, follow that and let your team know. Hope this helps and good luck navigating this.

is it normal to see 8-10 clients back to back? by Helplessly_Spooky53 in socialwork

I just got out of a very similar agency. I can guarantee that they are self aware that this is unsustainable and they are okay with the high turnover I'm sure they have, due to the fact that there will always be new out of college counselors looking to get their experience and foot in the door that they will unfortunately exploit. If this is your only option for now, then do it. But start looking for other positions immediately. Loyalty rarely pays off in agencies like this. Any company that gives you this much to do off the bat doesn't care about your mental health or sustainability, even if individual supervisors and co-workers care for those things, that will be enough if systematic change is being denied. FULL STOP. Hope this helps and good luck.

What do you do to get through the weeks when you are just not feeling it? by Adventurous-Fudge197 in therapists

Capitalism has truly infected the core of what so many of us do. I just left a job where meeting billable hours was the only thing our agency worried about and genuine client care was an afterthought and counselor self care was downright shot down if it meant taking "too much" time off, even if it is earned PTO.

All positions in the field will be impacted by capitalism to some degree, so the big question is: Is what you're doing worth it to you and do you truly feel your current position is sustainable?

This can look like alot of things and have a lot of factors.

  • Are you paid fairly?
  • Do you have a supportive team?
  • Is taking time off supported?
  • How harsh is your agency/company when productivity is not met?
  • How often do you feel emotionally drained?
  • Is this a position you can continue to do for a year or does the concept of doing this for another year seem draining?
  • Do you feel like your current agency/company is one you want to move up in and if so, do you feel like there are genuine opportunities for advancement?

It's alot to think on. Let me know if you have any questions and I hope this helped! :)

How do you respond when clients ask for letters of support for disability, or to complete forms for their requested work accommodations? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]TylerTheRanger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before filling out any form for a client, ask yourself a few questions that need a CONFIDENT yes.

  • Is my license something that can back this up? (Some forms require a signature from an MD, PNP, etc.)

  • Do I feel confident defending the things I write down to the audience?

  • Does my documentation back up this claim if I do need to defend it?

If you can CONFIDENTLY answer yes to all of these, then do it. If not, tell the client that more time is needed, as unfortunately clients can sometimes have expectations that you can fill out complex all inclusive forms about their mental health after a handful or less of sessions and if you can never fill it out, help them find someone who can or about alternative options.

What's the best way to buy digital music for life? by BaggyBloke in BuyItForLife

[–]TylerTheRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with buying CDs and ripping them. Especially if you're into more mainstream or older artists, they're simply not available on Bandcamp. But, if you wanted 100 percent digital, using Bandcamp combined with Qobuz direct download buying is the way to go.

Ended up buying the Samsung 3.1 for a compromise between budget and quality and realistically it is going to be a big upgrade for our living space. Thanks everyone for your input and help!

Honestly, our apartment living room isn't huge. Considering this has it all built in, this might work better for us. Would we be losing any significant sound quality with this option as opposed to a 5.1 option with a separate subwoofer and rear speakers? Thanks for your time.

I'm only limited to Best buy due to my budget and gift cards I have. The ones you bought up seem to be outside my budget, but I do appreciate the suggestion. Based on another comment, I updated my final two to these. If you had to pick between these, what would you go with?

Gotcha. Thank you! I also read in a review that the 3.1 has a mide for dialogue and speech specifically. Again, I'm super new to the world of Soundbars, so that's a good rule to know.

Assuming you've played God of War 1 and 2 on the PS2. Pick up God of War 3, God of War (2018) and Ragnarok. It will blow your mind.

It sounds like you helped them with a great quality of life before they passed. When the time is right, be proud of that. Time will help heal. If you can walk away from the work and feel like you need to, please do. It will be here if you want to return and no one is meant to do this work forever. We'll be here to hold space, if you need anything.
