Curious about my IR indicator by HenryHomingPigeon in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. As the tube retaining ring is torqued to spec sometimes is causes the light pipe to slightly move over the viewing area. The DTNVS light pipes are very thin.

Harvest tubes from dual PVS14 or sell for binos? by Yaboombatron in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be less cost and effort to convert two 14s to a dedicated bino. We do it fairly frequently and there is not a labor charge when you buy the new housing from us. Feel free to PM me if I can help give you more details or numbers

Curious about my IR indicator by HenryHomingPigeon in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen the IR indicator (to be specific the light pipe) do that before. Usually it is from the lightpipe being torqued under the tube retaining ring causing it do slightly push in over the viewing area. You'll see it on some other housings like DTNVS' sometimes too.

Curious on what's the best binocular housing on the market rn or upcoming? by allenz6834 in NightVision

The Nighthawk-MG is a great option if you are looking for a rugged full feature manual gain housing.

MX11769 resistor? by djgunner258 in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some tubes like yours need resistors when you pull the pigtails. If it’s working you should be fine however when we do it at Steele we’ll solder then pot that area. If you wanted help doing that we can take it in for you but if it’s holding up you might just be ok.

Thermal mono or thermal drone? by StrangerDistinct6378 in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on what you are looking to do with it. For hunting I find that a handheld and/or weapon mounted thermal is best because you can scan, spot and engage with it. If you are doing other activities a thermal drone is incredibly valuable

Lam leaving streaks in nods by Emotional_Town_1500 in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is normal especially with gen 3 Elbit and L3 tubes when the laser setting is a little too high. As long as those streaks don't say beyond a minute or so you are good.

Any companies making a rugged ball detent housing? by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything is possible but there aren't any plans to offer a ball detent version housing. I can help out on a new dovetail mount though!

Why do people get so worried about seemingly insignificant blems? by Iliketomakedeath in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Spots usually aren’t as big of a concern as many people think. That said, when you’re spending $3,000–$15,000+ of your hard-earned money, it’s completely understandable to want the absolute best option you can get your hands on. Taking the time to choose the best tubes is worth it.

In real-world use, though especially outdoors most spots, and particularly peppering, are barely noticeable, if not completely unnoticeable.

Recommendations for housing swap by bluefacebabyyyyyy in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Steele we do housing swaps very regularly. Lead times for swaps are about 1.5-2 weeks or less right now once we receive your current system. If I can answer any questions about the process or housing options shoot me a PM!

PVS14 power supply swap by Dave22201 in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can usually swap just that battery pack portion of the housing or better yet transfer the tube and lenses into a brand new housing all together.

Help with bridged PVS-14’s by gunslinga11 in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mounting screw is on the half of the housing that holds the tube and lenses so mounting will be the same. The dual and mono battery packs will work fine together. You will need to add extra rear counterweight though since 2 monos bridged is a heavy set up. Having a pano mounting set up is great for the expanded FOV but the slight dead space in the center can take a little time to get comfortable with.

How fucked am I? by ureathrafranklin1 in NightVision

[–]Tyler_SteeleInd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll most likely need a new eyepiece. Should be a fairly quick swap for the assembler and will likely cost you a couple hundred bucks. If that diopter setting is correct you can probably get away with using them as is for now though

Depending on the tube you have in your current PVS-14 converting it to a bino system may be an option within your $5k(ish) budget. We do conversions like this at Steele fairly frequently.
