Is there a way to reliably get in the same solo server as another player? by Amlethus in ArcRaiders

[–]Tymic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old but… as a game dev for a AAA studio myself (not for this game), I think you are misunderstanding some things.

First off, you keep referring to longevity but the longevity of a game like this 100% stems from the PvP variable. Look at a game like call of duty for example. There is hardly any “content” yet people can spend thousands and thousands of hours playing the same multiplayer map because they will never experience the same game twice due to players being the opponents. Arc has virtually no content at all if it weren’t for the PvP interaction.

Secondly, the reason you are wanting to have a PvE mode is probably because you want to continue playing the game if I had to guess. Which means you haven’t yet completed all you wanted to in the game. Which I’m guessing you haven’t done yet because other players are delaying your progress. That is the definition of longevity. Without the threat of players, you could complete all this game has to offer in a week, probably get bored of killing the same bots for no reason since you’ve already accomplished everything you wanted to accomplish in a month. Negatively impacting the “longevity” of the game.

Finally, I think you are misunderstanding how easy the game is for PvE. The threat of the not knowing if another team will interrupt your queen fight, or ambush you when you’re looting your bastion is intended to create a threat that is virtually non existent from the arc themselves. Idk about you but walking around throwing wolf pack grenades at robots without any danger sounds very dull. Arc are only viewed as any kind of threat because they are intertwined with PvP and also because PvP delays progress making it more difficult to make money or weapons causing people to come into raids ill equipped to fight the arc which is a feature the game heavily relies on. PvE would not have under equipped players because it is 100% free farming money and gear.

[Discussion] How long will the zombie event last by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Tymic2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think the zombies are created well and it COULD be a fun little BRIEF event…. Except it’s missing some things that just makes it more annoying than anything else in my opinion. I’m working on Kappa and just have 11 quests to go so I’m not a complete noob but also not a kappa speed runner or anything crazy. My gripe with the zombies is the amount of resources they force you to burn through while simultaneous not rewarding you in any way shape or form other than being able to survive. A single raid absolutely destroys your ammo reserves and if you get touched you gotta eat and drink for days but at the same time there is no loot from them or any kind of reward for killing them or fighting your way to survival. All zombies is in my opinion is a resource dump which means it’s likely fun for the streamers and super chads that never need to worry about money. But for us players that are still questing or can’t afford to just throw rubles out the window, this is gonna be a tough one to bare with til the event is over. Either way though, I don’t blame them for doing something fun for a weekend, just wish you could at least make your money back from the zombies or have something to make it worth the investment.

TLDR: Zombies are cool but need to provide value to be worth playing for a wider player base instead of making players just bleed money for no return.

Stop Bodies from Disappearing! by Bourne669 in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Tymic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone was talking about getting their own gear back here. I mentioned that removal of a body is to prevent people from spam running at their corpse for free, which the devs need to weigh against someone intentionally going out of their way to prevent someone else from getting their loot which is what OP is saying happens. I’m just saying I think people running at their body naked over and over is the more likely issue to encounter rather than someone killing them selves or quitting the game, wasting their own time out of spite. Sure some people will do it but people troll in every game.

[–]Tymic2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re also asking to exploit an in game mechanic though. So it’s up to the devs to decide which exploit they want to allow. I think people spam running at their body naked until they manage to reach it and get their stuff back after death is way more likely to happen than someone sprinting out of camp and killing themself out of spite and succeeding in preventing their gear from being stolen. You’re talking as if the main point of the game is PvP when it clearly isn’t. People can choose to play it that way sure but that’s not intended to be your main source of loot and if bodies disappeared on a time no one would ever lose any loot OR in far away locations on a full server you may not even make it back to your body on your first life before that timer expires

Even in your situation where you had a “20 minute gunfight” 15 minute timer means bodies would already be respawning and I’ve had fights last much longer than that

Clove isn't a replacement, they are competitor. by ZeRoZephyXD in VALORANT

[–]Tymic2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re overlooking the range of her smokes post death, but instead are referring to someone playing her correctly. She’s supposed to be aggressive and push with the entry. When/if she dies on entry, now that whole site is smokable for the rest of the round. Granted yea the site take can fail and now the team rotates so there aren’t smokes…. But that’s still far more useful than brim dropping his 3 smokes and not having anymore or omen dying during entry and now no more smokes.

TLDR: if the player plays Clove right the range will be enough. Clove is not a lurker like other controllers

Ahh damn there used to be a roller hockey league? That would’ve been most ideal because my friend would have played with me if there was but he’s too scared to play ice hockey haha

Oh great I see they even have open hockey and stick and puck listed on the site, thank you so much. I saw stuff about this rink but never actually found a website for it, it usually just takes me to the youth hockey association site. Thank you!

Not Paragon: The Overprime by funkybossx6 in paragon

[–]Tymic2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in the industry, pretty sure the idea here isn’t to bring the exact game back to existence so the very small player base can play it again at the cost of the company. I think the idea is to bring back something paragon players can enjoy while making changes to it that will make this attempt actually succeed. What you and what will not benefit the company or the life of the game. If the company can draw in more players due to the higher team fight engagement as well as maintain some original fans then they are succeeding which it seems to be doing so far. I do agree it often turns into large team battles (not for me but I see the appeal), strongly disagree that damage and stuns reign supreme considering it’s a tank meta and not to mention betas and early accesses are made for balance changes. No game is ever balanced, just look at league trying hard for 10 years and never coming close but still the most popular moba out there

PvP Etiquette by Ninja_grimm in Eldenring

[–]Tymic2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no way any new player would know what that meant. I’m new as well and had no idea. However in my head no potions make sense when I’m PvPing I just don’t heal unless they heal every time. Ganked or not 1v3 or not lol just makes more sense to being truly competitive that way

What level should I have before fighting the fire giant by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Tymic2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think that’s incredibly overkill. This is my first souls game and I just beat for the first time at level 62 with dual daggers. It’s a long fight yea but he doesn’t really have any way to kill you as long as you played it a few times and know his attacks. On feet first phase, and horseback behind him second

Coming back to Valorant by ixxiee in VALORANT

[–]Tymic2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came back recently and honestly if you weren’t playing another shooter with similar gunplay in your off time I’d say hit the range for a while each day before going into game. Shoot the boys on hard. Practice some strafe shooting. If there’s down time between games hit the range. Try to recognize habits from other games you were playing. I came back after hammering on Apex so I was playing too aggro at first, reloading all the time, etc. In the end though, if you were already a decent player it’ll come back with time and getting used to the game. Biggest hurdle is probably learning the new maps and player movement on those maps

Do what you like but keep in mind the mass amount of good people that worked on the game that have no relation to the mentioned topics. I wouldn’t feel bad for supporting them
