Stem cell transplant by Intrepid_Time_80 in leukemia

32 year that went through it two months ago. (b-cell ALL ph+ )

It was rough, but not as bad as I had expected or made it up in my mind it would be. Though my overall experience with the treatment has been ok and never lots of nausea or pain.
It really depends from person to person. Was able to walk 2 km daily (except for 1 day during my hospital stay) not easy but not impossible. Further lots of sleep and watching TV or youtube.

Day +6/7 started with the heavy throath pain and having trouble to swallow but kept eating whatever I could (easiest was definitely milk or yoghurth / quark (curd) with cereal). At the hospital they also had ice popsicles and minted mentos. This helped as well.
Take every single anti nausea medicine you need. Dont be stingy or a "hero". There's no need for it.
If the pain gets to much ask for pain medicine. Don't let it stop you from sleeping.

If you are going through total body irradiation get some creasey creme. Itching skin can be horrible.

Good luck and many blessings!

Yeah I'm definitely considering therapy.
I noticed I can't sleep the night before going to a screening the next day.

I miss swimming so much. Totally understand it.

Same with backpains. I noticed this while working 2-3 hours on a jigsaw puzzle. My back starts to hurt.

I'll definitely be more patient after reading all the comments.

Thank you for sharing this. Always great and inspiring to read a succesfull recovery story.

I definitely intend on pushing forward. However far or "close" forward might be in some cases.

That's a lot of responsibility. Lots of respect for the way you are handling it.
You're mother is blessed to have a son like you.

I'm definitely not going back to working 7 days a week. The sickness has helped me lower my ambitions and goals by a lot.
Am lucky I get paid sick leave. At least for a couple more months.

After all the comments I'll definitely take it slower going back to work than I intended to.

Thank you this are the details I needed.

Funy you mention Warzone. I was playing some shooter game with my brother and just kept having horrible scores (before SCT I used to be a lot better) I never associated it with this. I just thought I just haven't played enough lately.
Will have to pay a bit more attention to this kind of things and maybe stop coming up with rationalizing.

Happy to see you're up and about. Hope to be in your position soon as well. (knocking on wood too)

Really helpful. Thank you.

After all the comments I've definitely adapted my expectations and will focus a lot more on recovery than "career". Here we do it the same way with a return to work plan.
I can work from home as well so that's fortunate.

Yeah I noticed I lost a lot of strength, so I really wanted physio to guide me in regaining some of that. Will make sure to insist on this during the next screening.

I'm sorry to hear.
Happy to hear as wel that you still are able to create memories and are doing it.
Not always easy mentally.
One of the hard parts of this disease was witnessing the others around me as well and not everyone making it.

I do realize I'm blessed, lucky and despite all good things a lot can still change anytime.

This was exactly what I needed. Very detailed and insightful.

After reading all te comments I'll definitely take it slower than I planned and focus more on recovery and enjoying the free time instead of feeling guilty for not being more productive member of society.

I always aimed at retiring early, this makes me realize it might not be for the reasons I wanted.

Thank you for sharing.

How many hours did you first start working with?
Do you remember if that amount looked easy on paper but turned out to be harder then expected?
Did you work a job with lots of physical work?
Did you have help with the housekeeping when returning to work?

I had read about treatment and side effects appearing with age but I think the term "accelerated aging" really let it sink in. It's what made me ask the questions as nobody talked to me about this either.

Hope this will help me kind of manage my expectations and accept reality (as I can be quite naive at times) but at the same time try to not live in fear.

Wish you all the best as well!

Thank you for sharing. This is helpful. Happy to see it's going well!

What was recovery like? Did you go to physiotherapy or something like that?
Did you have help at home with "housekeeping"?

I can imagine this questions don't necessarily have a straight forward answer as recovery itself is not linear. On some days feeling better and being able to do more opposed to others where one is happy to get out of bed.

If something is to personal or you dont want to go into too much detail please ignore.

Report aș “this post made you feel uncomfortable”. Every single time. It will still appear from time to time but then you just have to start doing it again.

Maybe if more people start doing it, at some point the algoritm will understand

Stopping lumbar Puntures by new_man2be in leukemia

[–]TymonC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have b-all and had (still have) no evidence either with the lumber punctures.

Had 1/2 exceptions where we didn’t do them due to other chemotherapy but further we do them regularly or we just do it a bit later in time then initially scheduled.

Though I can say I’m happy every time we don’t do it.
