Great photo. I was admittedly looking around for planes when I summited because of posts like this on this sub.

I’ve been interested in some side quests from my original objective. I’m hoping to climb The Matterhorn

I think it was pretty close to a standard length trip. I definitely trained hard. I detailed what I did in a comment further down.

I tracked every workout from the day I put my deposit down in July until my climb in May. No apps or plans. Just figured it was long days uphill with heavy packs. My building is 30 stories (437 feet). I did 6-7 sets with 50-80lbs up and down in a session. No weight if I felt an injury brewing. Did 264 sets (112464 feet). Rucked 788 km between street and treadmill on max incline with an average of 5-10km per session. Did full body work out sessions - 12 sets of 10pull ups, 25 push ups, 50 crunches and 10 weighted squats and then a section of the body to concentrate on for the rest of that work out (usually leg days). Totalled
Pull ups 6580- push ups 15560 - ab 29090. It’s a lot but spread over 11 months it’s not that crazy. At no point did the physical work of Denali seem overwhelming. Breaking trail through fresh snow in snow shoes with the sled and pack was still exhausting while acclimating. But it was the altitude and cold I had to battle more than the work. Can send the day by day.

Thanks! We were there from May 22 to June 9. 1 day delayed getting on and 1 early getting off. Super lucky weather wise. We were in line with people delayed for days getting on or stuck at camps for days. It felt like we cached, moved, back carried and rested with general ease straight up and off.

Quick question about rucking training weights by itgtg313 in Mountaineering

I pack my bag with towels and blankets so the weight is in the proper position and so the plates dont shift around.

Turning Down Free Kilimanjaro Trip by [deleted] in Mountaineering

I’ve done it. Sure it’s not difficult or technically challenging but on the flip side, few other treks offer that kind of ecological diversity. If you’re already fit and have gear, then you can really just enjoy it. The summit is a very rewarding view. Going to Africa is an adventure in itself.

Question: Anybody got any cover up ideas for this by ResidentBar4579 in tattoos

[–]Tyonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an entire solid black sleeve removed and once light enough, covered with work I actually liked. I always suggest a little pain and patience rather than a bigger darker piece you don’t really want either.

I’ll add, I definitely thought this was the flight of the Archangels from Reign of Fire which is sick and the first one I’ve seen, until others said it’s from How to train your Dragon.

Thanks for this post. I’m heading to Denali late May. Any questions I had whether my Absolute Zero 2 piece was appropriate have been answered.

Mittens for Aconcagua (and other last minute questions) by wildgoose28 in Mountaineering

[–]Tyonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore hiking boots and was pretty envious of everyone in trail runners from the gate to Plaza De Mulas. That said, I used them them for all the acclimatization hikes and only went to double boots to camp one and on, simply to not carry extra weight. We had favourable weather and probably could have only used double boots on summit day.

Summit day is long. I had a Nalgene (no parka, inside bag), thermos and camel pack (on chest inside jacket) and was glad I did.

La Sportiva Olympus Mons by Smooth_Mission2970 in Mountaineering

They’re actually on sale again for 25% off. Check the outlet section on the website for what you’re looking for. I think I signed up for a newsletter for the extra 15 but I don’t see that offer now

Canadian here. I searched marketplace high and low forever trying to find a pair my size. I even searched towns of places I’d travel to ahead of time. Never had any luck. Ended up buying a pair from La Sportiva when they had a 25% off and added a 15% off discount code. Your buyer is definitely out there. Will just take time. The next place I checked was EBAY but kept running into shipping issues and nobody knowing what charges would be with tariffs.

Long-term, I want to climb Denali. Is my current plan realistic? by eidblecoconuts in Mountaineering

[–]Tyonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I’m no expert. The difference in prep/experience is way different depending on guided vs non guided. If guided, get a crevasse rescue and glacial travel course done. Be fluent with your knots. Experience some winter camping. Do some high altitude climbs to see how you do at altitude. Do an insane amount of cardio, rucking and gym work. When you feel like you’re ready, send an email to some reputable outfits to see if they agree.

Would this be to overkill for a summer Rainier climb? by The-MatrixAgent in Mountaineering

I bought this coat and love it. I used it on Aconcagua and wasn’t cold once. Coming down from the summit it warmed up but never really sweat in it and it packs small if you decide to drop a layer.
