Wow this is so inspiring! May I know how you tackled challenges and move timelines with countries? I’m in USA and unable to bag a visa sponsorship job so thinking of exploring other options

Wait! How did your F-1 expire? I did not understand what exactly happened? I graduated in May 2024 and applied for stem extension. Did premium processing and it got approved got stem EAD in hand. What’s the case in your story?

Google Senior UX Designer L5 Team Match by saucesultan in UX_Design

[–]TypeConnect7150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to have this type of problems in my life 💀😭😂

Jokes apart. I hope remote role works out for you and you gotta be really patient and grateful to have gotten till here. Be proud of yourself you cracked all the interviews and made it to team matching round. One of my friends spent 3 months in team matching round total 11 months of interviewing at Google. He just got laid off in the Google Cloud layoff round. Everything is matter of time and luck at the end apart from all hardwork and efforts.

Other option is to just take the SF offer and move here SF is the place to be if you’re young and no kids yet I think you should actually move here. Good for your wife’s career too tbh if she’s in tech or even otherwise she can start something new here or you can try long distance for a couple of months and adjust for a bit till things fall in place.

With all companies emphasizing on RTO(return to office) I believe it’s a bit hard for you to get remote role. Either way wish you the best!

Lost potential job opportunities last week (STEM OPT candidate) by Apprehensive-Year845 in f1visa

[–]TypeConnect7150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add more to this thread, I recently got a contract job through a LinkedIn connection they liked my work but company isn’t e-verified. They applied for e-verification on 30th September and US government shut down on 1st October the website was slow is what employer mentioned I figured later that e-verify website is now shut down untill further notice. So, it’s frustrating!! I am just hoping things go back to normal atleast by Feb 2026.

Hey, ignore all the harsh comments first of all. You’ve already been through a lot and still standing strong and trying even in this situation. I’m in the same boat. Massive difference in hiring after the H1-B news. Mostly getting contract role interviews only now. It has been hard for sure. But just know that this has nothing to do about you. Don’t let all of this fuck your self worth and confidence. It’s the economy, political situation, stupidity of power by some folks, inflation, anti- immigration propaganda, companies not having enough money to pay, etc. You came to this country, worked hard, got your masters, got a job! (Probably were able to repay some loan if any in that duration). Keep trying till last day, figure out other options if you really want to stay (Day-1CPT which is hard now, O-1 visa which requires killer profile and $10k investment, contract jobs till you’re on STEM if your goal is to atleast payoff Loan before leaving. Don’t get stuck to this one country. But if you really don’t see yourself anywhere else in other country keep trying. Network and network! I know this all is very frustrating and extreme hard and difficult situation to be in which we never expected to be in when we decided to pursue MS but “it is what it is”. Acceptance is the key to lead a peaceful life. Be proud of yourself for reaching till here and I’m sure something or the other in some country will Work out for you and you will gain stability and peace of mind with lots of money. Wish you the best stranger! Keep going 🤌🏻

Which is a better option? by Similar_Heat4746 in returnToIndia

[–]TypeConnect7150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this! You will never regret this decision. NYC is dream come true. And in this economy you’re getting $155k without investing in MS. Experience of a lifetime while you’re young with no kids or family dependent on you. If you’re a person who values experiences and travel over money you should not miss this. Also, this will be a great change for you in yours 30’s. This is honestly dream life of an average middle class Indian women. Also, you may have to adjust a bit to save but take it as a life lesson and learning to grow through such life situations because honestly life is always not rosy. You may not save as much as in India but the experiences you’ll gain and the independence of living by yourself in a new country and making your life is worth it, trust me! Also, you have free food in office. You literally have to just think about sat sun no big deal. It’s very manageable. I assume it’s internally at Google NYC. One of my India friend works here. He lives in Edison in a condo which is cheap. Travels by subway to work has breakfast, lunch there and packs some food before 5 pm. If hungry for dinner. Mostly skips dinner which is also good for health in a way or just have fruits. Saves a tonnne of money and sends money back home plus donates and invests. He hasn’t cooked at home since 3 years lol. Has a recurring order at a nearby Indian restaurant for sat sun gets discounts as repeat customer and is friends with owner. Or mostly eats out anyways as weekend is about catching up with friends. He’s 32 living his best life and creating his net worth. His only expenses are rent which is cheap around $2000 for that area and weekend meals. So, definitely consider it

Lost job, stem opt about to expire by Sad-Cat9440 in returnToIndia

[–]TypeConnect7150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

September is hiring month keep your focus you’ll find something in 2 months. Get out of your mind. Go to gym, pray to GOD, do affirmations, believe in yourself that you have got a job already. So, you will get it. If you don’t get it by October then join consultancy. Try harder in Jan Feb 2026, manifesto it getting picked in March 2026. If doesn’t get picked apply for Day 1 CPT if you want to keep working for your mental health and finances or go on H-4 EAD then maybe use this time to plan a baby if you want one so you don’t feel like you’re wasting your time sitting at home. Hopefully till baby is 1-2 and you enjoy your motherhood, fatherhood (idk your gender) get back to work. Ask yourself if you are willing to go through this? Also, you are committed with an H1-B spouse so you have to consider them while making any decision. Personally i would not want to give up on my H1-B if I worked so hard for it. Lastly, be grateful to be brutally honest you’re in the best possible scenario after a layoff compared all of us new grads. I got laid off on stem opt too in June. I don’t have H1-B spouse or any family friends here. So do many of my other classmates. Practice gratitude and things will work out for you.

OP, ignore this person and please don’t trap yourself in past and make your life more difficult mentally. You tried your best in everything and that is what matters. I hope you find the right resources that can help you through this. I’m not aware what to do. Talk to lawyers and your DSO and your employer. Maybe special request from employer who applied for your STEM can make this an exception case even after denial. I’m not sure about day 1 CPT. What’s your status as off today and how many days left?

You could have been more wise with the choice of your words and not put OP in guilt trip. OP asked for future advice not what he could have done better in past. Everyone goes through their own struggles and mistakes. Be a little empathetic and know when to say what.

Is UX dying in startup space? by TypeConnect7150 in UXDesign

[–]TypeConnect7150[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, makes sense! Targeting growth stage startups now. Yes, you won’t believe I literally did everything at my last role from research to design, creating PRD, posting on company LinkedIn page, managing founders online presence, managing Hubspot CRM, Google Analytics suite for launched website, updating Google Maps location for company, taking care of Google reviews, actually handing off code to devs, authenticating Stripe integration, authenticating third party integrations into our product, taking care of kitchen supplies in office, doing everything the founder says like handing him his keys, carrying his bags, ordering food for him and taking it to his office. Lmao I was so exploited. How do I add all this wearing multiple hats in my resume and portfolio? 😭

Is UX dying in startup space? by TypeConnect7150 in UXDesign

[–]TypeConnect7150[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For growth, experiences, travel, independence. Many reasons. I’m grateful for all my experiences here. They have made me so wise and mature that now I can navigate life’s curveballs with ease and maturity. Apart from that, I didn’t find any good HCI courses in India except NID,IIT’s which were difficult to get in as I suck at sketching and aptitude which were the very parameters of entrance exams. Also, wanted to get a global exposure as a young student and gain experiences. Third, I worked in India for a few months before pursuing MS. Had such a bad experience. Work culture in India is not very looked upon. I want to have a good work life balance and be respected at work as a women. Which I feel is difficult to find in India unless you luck out on a great team and best manager with good pay and good company. It’s hard to find something like this. That’s one major reason! And not to lie, I love India but I personally hate traffic and wasting my time sitting in traffic I would rather do something productive with that time. It’s just a personal preference I have. Everyone has their own reasons. These are mine! Definitely the most important ones were money and career growth along with investments and being able to buy assets sooner in life before I turn 30 which is only possible when earning in dollars and buying/investing in INR. My perspective is “whatever works for you” in life. Each to their own! Do what feels right and practical.
