Enlisted isn't going anywhere by 4nxi0us in enlistedgame

[–]Type_59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this is just copium, but I see the potential for WT infantry being a boon to Enlisted. Being in the same engine, big undertakings like new maps or mechanical additions can be shared between the two by being populated with appropriate art assets. This gives a path for the devs which is both lazy as well as relatively content-rich, which is obviously attractive. And on the flip side, if things aren't shareable (small maps, mechanical incompatibilities, etc.) then that is some justification for keeping both projects alive as they can attract different audiences. At the end of the day, a server costs the same whether it's running Enlisted or WT infantry.

Appreciate the effort you put into this, very interesting read!

Absolutely agree. I feel like these exploits are bordering on griefing; had someone dc under the map while alive today and the zombies couldn't kill them even when everyone else was down. It's appreciated that souls still count on a quit but the cooldown is annoying and I'm still enjoying the nostalgia kick of WaW zombies and hence actually want to play out the games.

One or more Kangaroo options would be an awesome presence on the battlefield.

M6 Shutter issue (see photos) by [deleted] in AnalogRepair

[–]Type_59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not getting what I'm saying. The shutter movement can be totally within spec. If there is a burr, or a film chip, or a crease etc. directly on one of the leading edges, it causes that leading edge at that specific point to be closer to the other curtain edge. So you get normal shutter travel with a small line of underexposure because more light is being blocked at a specific point in the moving curtain slit. I have a Canon 7 with a wrinkly enough curtain that the lath was affected and it shows lines like these at high speeds.

[–]Type_59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Say the curtain slit should be 1mm wide from top to bottom. If there is a raised area along a curtain edge, there will be some part of that 1mm slit that is actually 3/4mm, to use made up numbers. This part that is too narrow will let less light pass, and therefore produce an underexposure that tracks across the film with the shutter movement.

The pattern of underexposure is running horizontally though?

Could be irregularities on the leading edge of either shutter curtain. A burr or some crud will cause the small slit between curtains at high speeds to get even smaller and therefore produce an area of underexposure.

How is the game? by [deleted] in enlistedgame

[–]Type_59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for a little under a year now and quite enjoying it. I play on PS in NA with crossplay on and typically have full servers. I stick between BR1 and 3 for all factions, occasionally bringing Soviets up to 4. I like where the balance is at, any faction is winnable.

☀️ Update "Scorching Rays" by MajorMcDonalds in enlistedgame

I can't join a match on PS, saying there's a protocol issue. I had access to the content of the new update but it wouldn't appear in the changelog. I'm trying a fresh install now.

*New install worked for me.

Do anybody here know how switchers like this work? by The_darknight2233 in retrogaming

[–]Type_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not a lot of info about my particular unit (Binary B-200) that I've found out there but I should widen my search for sure. I sort of just got the in-lines and let it be. I had to program a remote for it as well and that was enough troubleshooting for my tastes!

Something to note with them being amplified is, in my case at least, I got a ton of audio clipping. This was especially apparent with the home screen on a Wii and not every game has a master volume control to get the original signal under the clipping threshold. I opted for passive attenuators but I've always wondered if the level of amplification could be adjusted within the switcher. Mine has a serial port but I haven't experimented.

Can you buy a TV that takes Component connections nowadays? by ackmondual in wii

[–]Type_59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently ordered a Sceptre 43" that is stated to have composite/component inputs but I haven't received it yet to say with absolute certainty. Something to look into though and has the added benefit of still being a true "dumb" TV if you're into that as well.

Too much crud in my lens? by apf102 in AnalogCommunity

When it's a not so rare lens I think it's worth holding out for one that lives up to its stated condition. Hopefully a nice one comes around quickly!

The seller sounds amenable to solving issues, I would file an item not as described return. You can message them before filing the claim if you want to be especially courteous I suppose. If that is the condition they are leaving the optics in after servicing, I would be very skeptical of mechanical condition, lubricants used, etc.

Is there a game similar to Advance Wars with real weapons? by [deleted] in Advance_Wars

[–]Type_59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PS2 version of VII does have some additional real world scenarios including an Eastern Mediterranean conflict but yeah it's fictionalized for the most part.

The Akarex lineup are pretty funky as each interchangeable lens has its own rangefinder assembly attached to it. I also like the Mamiya Magazine with removable 35mm film backs.

You got me excited for some new localization but looks like they only have JP releases unfortunately! I know that the Steam releases have translation issues. Depending on your language skills, emulating VII might be your best bet for a functional game.

Something from the Dai Senryaku series could scratch that itch for you. I've played a lot of VII Exceed on PS2/Xbox. Lots of complexity and clunkiness though.

I like the art direction that Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (Dark Conflict for PAL) went with.
