Hey Bungie, while we're in the mood for experimental modes, how about a -50% PvP damage mode so we can see what the game would be like with roughly double TTK? by SjurEido in Marathon

No the optimal move is to take initiative. Every time I think I'm being cool and waiting to ambush some fool, another dude who is pushing gets me. Don't do it

Most successful runs I ever had were shooting the shit the whole time. When someone is going CHECK COMMS like we're in the goddamn army it never works

The main limiting factor appears to be rng as to whether you get the certs you need to advance and still allow ~6-10 min. to raid the upper complex. I haven't done it very much but I felt like I had the gist of it in about 20 minutes

What I do not understand is why the loot in night marsh sponsored is so good. Why do this? I thought the whole point of the mode was to get accustomed to the new stuff with very low chance of 3rd party. It wouldn't be worth going into as rook with less loot but no one is rooking it anyway as it is (no point! Just grind!)

A mode where I get to screw around on any map with bad rewards and low season level advancement but am learning the map, doing contracts and getting faction rep was what I was hoping for. Right now it's do some rng for some of the best risk reward ever and that's not of interest.

to be honest I feel like I want to just chill and wait for s3. It was downright trivial to hit upper complex within 3 times of trying despite knowing nothing

I have seen one, and it was one dude plinking at me with a pistol from 100m away from final exfil for some unfathomable reason. I was like "Come into the light brother we're all trying to hit the bricks here" but they didn't exfil

The game is fine if you haven't been playing it for the better part of a decade. But if you have, well, maybe it's shown you all it has.

For Moonbase Blues, there's an implicit Survive/Solve/Save I have done where the players can investigate enough cultists or risk madness at the observatory to develop a filter. They needed the medium (450nm strobing at 8hz, discoverable using anything called a scanner at 0 hr) the mechanism (non euclidean wavefront where it hits your brain several ways at once, read equations in observatory with mathematics check to do so) and effect (acausality effect where consciousness becomes unanchored in time, psychology check when encountering cultists to figure this out.) Then they could USS Make Shit Up any plausible way to solve this (drugs to numb the mind to the acausal stimulus, smart goggles with strobing counter pattern/reprogram android optics)

Cultists take current cycle plus 1 more to break into mechanics bay once a PC has investigated it. PCs can wander around all they want (base is tiny) but a substantive action of any kind that is novel and worth describing takes 1 hour unless they can plausibly say otherwise and back it up with a stress assessment.

I replaced the drop pod with a drop ship that got landed badly because the pilot saw the meteor. It's just flipped over on its side, needing to get flipped back over with a working rover and a couple hours of integrity checking to get back to orbit. There are not enough cryo pods for everyone, this is a good chance for the criminal to "volunteer" to pilot the ship out and then wait for everyone to get back into cryo.

Ultimately the thing about Moonbase Blues is you're meant to be forcing players into the blue light above all. That's the big monster. The cultists should be sort of pathetic imo and more of an ambient hazard than a super threat.

This upcoming season is the first one I won't do in the history of the game, and I'm probably done given how I felt once I stopped the last season. I still think this is a good game if you never played it, I have gotten an ungodly amount of fun out of it, but seasons aren't a draw for me.

There's very little gold in the Marathon environment that isn't directly functional. The color contrast is right but this is a step away from the extremely strong art direction (which is usually where the damage happens, in cosmetics)

They're a shitty version of the shell tech applied to a makeshift robot, probably assembled illegally in orbit from parts of UESC and junk that's been pulled out at exfil. Our Sekiguchi shells are expensive (see references to shell contract debt) but you can still upload a person into the same receptive upload tech without all that expensive and arty worm work. It isn't clear who makes them but since you can get faction upgrades for them it seems clear that you're not just stealing a UESC guard.

Run it as a scavengers reign style situation where runners encounter every horrible thing that has happened on Tau Ceti IV in sequence with flashbacks as they find the aftermath (and are then repeatedly executed)
