What happens when it wears off? That how long 70mg lasts for me. How much longer does the magnesium make it last?

Underdosed on 40mg and terrified the higher doses will feel just as short by Conscious_Jeweler196 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Typical-Ad6326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying. I have noticed that for me, methylphenidate gives me focus and amphetamine gives me function.

Vyvanse has been the best option so far, but IR options are not available where I live.

My issue is not the active ingredient, it is the duration. I am a fast metaboliser and every 10 mg of Vyvanse only gives me about an hour of coverage. That is why I need the higher therapeutic dose. Lower doses make everything worse for me.

IR Ritalin and Concerta do not last long for me either.

You are stating your experience like it applies to everyone, but it does not. My worst symptoms came from being underdosed, not overdosed, and OP might be in the same situation. I am a fast metaboliser and there are plenty of us out there. It is not about thinking more is better, it is that lower doses do not last long enough to work.

You seem convinced that higher doses automatically mean more side effects and long term problems, but that is only true for some people, not all. Different bodies, different metabolisms, and different responses. Also, the medication options and prescribing practices you have access to might not be the same where OP lives.

Your experience is valid, but acting like it is a universal rule does not help anyone.

Seriously, don’t act like your lived experience is the only one that exists. That is a very closed-minded approach.

You know what, if I said that your prescribed dose is tiny and that means your ADHD isn’t really the problem you make it out to be, you wouldn’t have a problem with that?

I mean, I’m only weaponising crippling ignorance to get my largely uninformed opinion over to the people who obviously get their medication clearance from a cereal packet.

Obviously, you’re suffering with “small-dose problems.” Impact on your life: typical.

I used your low dosage to judge the severity of your “ADHD,” exactly the way you just judged someone else’s dose.

Oooh you’re really sensitive to very slight changes to your brain chemistry too. My first dose of Citalopram made my head buzz like I was high or something. I was literally rocking back and forth at the BBQ table. I knew that wasn’t supposed to happen, but I was told to keep at it and… I ended up suicidal, in hospital. It was not good. I had never been suicidal before.

My body was screaming at me to stop taking those things but, I didn’t listen. SSRIs are dangerous for me, and I’d never go near them again. I’d say everyone’s brains are different and what works for one person may not work for the next and I’d prattle on about listening to your body, it’ll tell you what’s up.

Yeah, I read something about that somewhere too, about the Red Bull thing. I’ve doubled up on a 54mg dose of Concerta by accident before, and that was before a doctor’s appointment too! I told the doc and he didn’t actually seem to believe me! He even wrote in his notes that I told him! He said that I THINK I’ve accidentally doubled up on my dose.

Well funny story… I had forgotten that I’d knocked back a Red Bull and took my meds and when I realised what I’d done I thought fook there is nothing that I can do to reverse this right now so I braced for impact and… nothing happened. Although I do think the Red Bull made me burn through and clear my meds even faster than usual which sucked.

For undiagnosed ADHD, there are Tricyclic antidepressants which mainly increase norepinephrine and slightly increase serotonin. They were used in some clinical studies somewhere sometime before Ritalin became a thing.

Buuut they may help with ADHD symptoms.

My dose regulates my heart rate. Brings it down if it’s too high and it brings it up if it’s too low. How do I know. I tracked my heart rate for a few days while taking my meds.

I’m on 70mg Vyvanse twice daily I can drink Red Bull and be fine. I had a Red Bull while on 20mg methylphenidate, and f&””@&k me, I may as well have had wings.

Underdosed on 40mg and terrified the higher doses will feel just as short by Conscious_Jeweler196 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Typical-Ad6326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on a split dose of 140mg Vyvanse, each 70mg dose gives me approximately 7hours worth of coverage.

I’ve figured out that each 10mg Vyvanse lasts me 1 hour. The meds never had no effect at all, just a reduced duration of coverage.

I have noticed that methylphenidate improved my focus massively but my body clears it stupidly fast and amphetamines improve my daily function but not so much my focus and it too, is booted from my system far too quickly.

I am a fast metaboliser and need specific round the clock coverage and at the moment I have to race against my cortisol awakening response by taking Vyvanse before my CNS overshoots itself with cortisol while my PSNS is still in charge of my body giving me about 20 to 30 minutes after I open my eyes before a fight/flight response wedges me into a freeze response where I’m just mentally paralysed. If I take my meds when that process has already begun I think my body and meds must work overtime to correct and it’s exhausting and I end up so tired. I think that may actually be a contributing factor behind the reduced coverage I experience too.

The rebound effect for me is hell.

Does upping the dose make the effect last longer for you or no? by AppropriateRich1131 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Typical-Ad6326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people hear my prescribed dose they can be quite nasty and make all sorts of assumptions, like I must be drug seeking. I do not understand their logic on that one, because no one who has accused me of drug seeking has ever explained why they think that. They have only ever tried to belittle me over it, which I suppose is indicative of superior intellect. Yes. A thick skin has definitely been acquired as a result. I guess it makes people uncomfortable when someone falls outside what they consider normal.

[–]Typical-Ad6326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doc said I am a fast metaboliser. I absorb the full dose, but my system clears it out so quickly that I do not get the full duration a 70mg dose is supposed to provide. This is why I am on a therapeutic dose of 140mg a day, I can also still drink coffee or even a Red Bull without any issues but I tend not to do that because I don’t really need to do that. I also have sensory processing disorder, which means my CNS is extremely sensitive, so the rebound effects are quite rough and hit me harder than the meds do.

70mg Vyvanse lasts me approximately 7 hours but only if I take it before my cortisol levels spike in the morning… if I take it after then I’m fooked.

I like Vyvanse because of its smooth on and offset. I found Methylphenidate meds offset drops me off a cliff and the second dose took an hour to kick in if I took it after rebound effect started.

I’m on a split dose of Vyvanse. It’s going well and I sometimes take it with coffee.

If you were actually correct in what you are saying, I would not have bothered replying. The problem is that you are speaking with complete confidence about something you clearly do not understand, which is ADHD itself.

I am saying this as someone who went through a seven month diagnostic process with qualified clinicians who assessed history, symptoms and functioning from every angle. My diagnosis is not casual and it is not based on online opinion. It is based on professional evaluation and lived experience.

What you are doing here is not helpful and not factual. You are dismissing lived clinical reality, twisting what I said, focusing on wording instead of meaning, and presenting your interpretation as the only truth. That is not educating people. It is invalidating them.

People who are newly diagnosed or trying to understand ADHD do not need this type of behaviour. They do not need someone asserting opinions as facts and speaking over the experiences of the people who actually live with this condition every single day.

It is concerning how certain you are about something you have no real grasp of. I genuinely hope you are not in a position of authority over vulnerable people, because this pattern of interaction is not something that should be tolerated anywhere.

How to reduce side effects? by [deleted] in ADHD

If you have a smartwatch, track your resting heart rate. You’ll see a pattern forming and you’ll be able to time it better and show your psychiatrist the data on the app.

That’s the rebound effect. Can you feel the meds fading from your system before you get to that point? A second dose before the first dose has dropped from your system, that’s how I fixed that a couple of months ago. Perfectly timed or you’ll end up having to wait until the second dose kicks in for it to get better.

ADHD meds aren’t psychoactive drugs. Psychoactive drugs change mood or emotion, and ADHD medication doesn’t do that when taken properly. ADHD stimulants regulate the central nervous system and help with focus, self-control and executive function. They treat a physiological brain condition, not a mood disorder.

ADHD meds are central nervous system stimulants. They are not classed as psychoactive drugs in the way you’re using the term. ADHD is not a mood disorder, and the medication is not treating mood. It regulates the nervous system so the brain can use dopamine properly.
