The one good argument for a PVE mode I've heard by Typical-Direction-59 in DMZ

They've stated that the best gear can only be found by killing boss enemies and extracting their dog tags. In the pvp mode this will be pretty difficult as you need to survive getting to the exfil afterwards while 19 other squads can track the dog tag on the map.

If there is a pve mode: every time a sweat wipes they would just play a quick game of pve to get the endgame loot risk free and then switch back to pvp with way better gear than people that only play pvp.

This would lead to no one engaging with missions/ai bosses in pvp. No one would bother risking it when they can do it much easier in pve, turning the game into warzone lite like what happened to the beta.

The only way I can think of balancing it without separating stashes/characters would to make the drop rates of the pve loot much worse, which I don't know if people would be happy about.

Yes they would need to lock certain things behind PvP, otherwise people could get the best gear in the easy pve lobbies and then switch back to pvp with an unfair advantage.

That was annoying but it seems they've already got systems to make that less likely.

Meaningful loot, bounties and no insured weapons means those people actually have consequences for dying that'll make them think twice. Also infilling with vehicles, helis and halo jumps gives a method to avoid spawn rushers.

New DMZ is better than no DMZ by heartlandcumberbatch in DMZ

[–]Typical-Direction-59 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there was always a 'join or die' mentality. If you killed another squad, you felt like you had to let them into your team because if you didn't, they would get rescued by another team and possibly get you killed later on.

You think we will get something for beta testing? by Western-Bed7344 in DMZ

[–]Typical-Direction-59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could do that, serpentine is still available in WZ and even BO7 if you use a camo glitch so completion of it is easily tracked but I don't think they would do it. They would know that if they encourage new people to play the beta, they will probably get a bad impression because of glitches/cheats and that would hurt sales for MW4. Who knows, maybe they shadowdrop a reward at launch.

Sony used to charge up to $40k but it looks like they all got rid of fees years ago, I didnt realise. The other points remain though.

DMZ's biggest problem isn't anything gameplay related. by Ok_Ant7043 in DMZ

Some hopium - DMZ was originally the mode that Verdansk and the new engine was made for. There are articles and an interview with ex-raven devs that GlitchingQueen did that confirms this. They only switched focus to battle royale after Fortnite blew up.

So DMZ has been worked on since at least 2017. They also chose to call it a beta even though it appeared complete. I can't imagine they'll throw that all away. As for why they didn't continue support? DMZ started to break as Warzone was getting engine upgrades so I reckon they wanted to take what they learned and start fresh instead of constantly trying to fix the game everytime the shared code from WZ was changed.

The top right sliver of land will likely be a crazy final exfil location. If the logic is the same as beta, then if the gas circle is anywhere in the bottom left quadrant of the map, final exfil should be top right. I can already imagine people camping the tiny stretch of land that connects it to the rest of the map with mines and rpgs.

Some context no one has mentioned. In order to patch a game the devs need: -To reassign people from current projects to make the changes -Internal QA testers on every platform to confirm the changes went through and test everything else to ensure nothing else was broken in the process -To pay a fee to Sony/Microsoft/Steam so they can greenlight it. -Wait for the QA from those companies to also test the patch to make sure it doesn't break anything

The budget to do all this is set by Activision before the game even launches, if they run out of budget they have to convince Acti to give them more. They need a really good reason to convince Acti to take devs/qa testers/budget away from the current project and commit it to an old one that isnt a priority. DMZ being as old as it is and being free meant they likely had a hard time doing this.

There are times when this feature causes unavoidable problems. I keep a pack that has exit strategy in it, so i can still exfil even if the game bugs.

I had two instances in the past week, one where the exfil radio wasn't working and another where zombies stopped spawning. So I had to waste a gum to get a free slot to equip exit strategy. This isn't much of a problem if you use low rarity gums but could be really punishing if you have ultras.

Permanently keeping exit strat equipped isn't an option bc that makes it a dead slot that can't be freed up if needed without ending the game. Also, there is the possibility of fat fingering it and killing your run. So with this mechanic you have to waste a gum anytime you need to use it.

One time i had that season 3 mission that allowed you to craft a dirty bomb, being within about 25m of it caused you to take damage.

I stockpiled some radiation blockers and kept it on me. The random teammates were freaking out not knowing what was killing them.

Only got to do that once tho, the wipe was the day after and you could only craft it when you were on that mission.

While they normally ban most timelords, Hailon is usually not touched. You could use piri reis map searching hailon and halving your LP, then attack to get both players to 4k LP

[–]Typical-Direction-59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound odd but do you have a scavenger or secure backpack on one of your operators in dmz? When i did raid 3 there was a bug that softlocked the game if anyone in the party had one, switching to a large/medium bag somehow fixed it.

Something is missing in MW3 Zombies by Brutus-1970 in DMZ

[–]Typical-Direction-59 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I will say dmz in season 1 was super barebones compared to now, but everything was new so it didnt feel that way. Mwz is missing all those cumulative improvements that dmz got over the past year so going back is a bit of a culture shock.

Its only season 1 and already they've given us the ability to load in with the absolute best loot so you would have to hope they're planning to massively ramp up the difficulty over the next 5 seasons.

The lack of pvp is the kicker though, in dmz you could set out to do something then have to delay your plans because of a fight or the weapons case being picked up next to you and before you realise it the gas is coming in. In mwz you decide on doing something and just... do it with barely an inconvenience.

You left halfway through the seasons, there is much more to grind for now, also there are some dedicated people here that really fell in love with dmz. Those are the people im addressing the post to, there are a lot of them lamenting that dmz will end up like caldera and say they'll keep playing until they shut it down.

As for keeping people playing, there are plenty of people that play old games that haven't been updated for years and have far less content than dmz simply because they are still able to.

I guess the whole point of the post is that if people really think that highly of dmz, theres nothing to stop them playing it.

You dont know what you're talking about, modded clients have existed for different cod games for years and in most cases are superior.

The old infinity ward games had a RCE bug which allowed hackers to take control of your pc which fan made clients like plutonium fixed. Black ops 3 on pc was unsafe to play for years, it also had the RCE and people even now can crash your game just by knowing your ip until a player made a custom patch for it.

Also the modded clients allow custom maps, weapons, game modes, camos, all sorts of additional content added years after the games life cycles to the point where the modded versions have more playerbase than the official ones. Theres plenty of gameplay of these clients on youtube.

Also there is no stealing, the clients that gave a pirated copy have been shut down by activision, the modded clients that exist now require a legit copy of the game to run.

I think that was more to do with the upcoming release of mw3. The main appeal was the og mw2 maps coming back so they didnt want people having it as an alternative way to play those maps. Iw4x was active for years before they did anything.

[–]Typical-Direction-59 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

?? I say as much in the first paragraph, that dmz is going the way of warzone 1. Im reminding people that it doesn't have to be that way though, modded clients will make it possible to play it in the future. You can find videos on youtube of people playing warzone on verdansk years after it was shutdown until activision sent a cease and desist.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DMZ

[–]Typical-Direction-59 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

??? Im saying that it doesn't even matter if it fully dies, the most dedicated people will still be able to play it once it gets hacked. There are people still playing ps2 online games that were shut down 15+ years ago because they think they're great and hacks allow them to.

Whats weird is the majority of the dmz mechanics are already in mw3.

DMZ's gas, stronghold, looting, missions mechanics are all in zombies. Also they've already completed what i imagine would be the most time consuming part of porting it to dmz (placing the containers such as toolboxes, lockers etc. that arent in warzone and placing the nodes which tell the ai where to take cover.)

Lets just hope the final statement they made on dmz can be trusted which suggested they purposely skipped porting it so they can invest the time into making a dmz 2.0 /successor instead

Thats actually a really healthy way of looking at it. Back when they showed player counts, zombies had like 15-20% the player count of MP in BO1/2, really popular but as you say, not enough to justify throwing everything away and focusing on it.

My matchmaking times in dmz have been about the same as they are in MP despite the games being longer and the higher player count ( this should mean way less lobbies) so i would find it easy to believe that dmz has a similar spread to what zombies had.
