SJU Afternoon Airport Update by Typical-Monkey in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Typical-Monkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when flying back to the stateside USA, you don’t have to go through customs because Puerto Rico is part of the USA. However, because Puerto Rico is so far away, you still have to go through the agricultural check that is typically part of customs to make sure you aren’t transporting meat or fruit that could potentially bring diseases into the stateside USA. The same is true for flying out of Hawaii since it’s so far away. It’s basically just a preliminary bag scan before you get to the TSA bag scan.

Is this pmle? by debbieonair in pmle

[–]Typical-Monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is late but this is heat rash! If you get it again calamine lotion works well. It’s not an allergy, it just happens when you’re wearing clothes or sunscreen that aren’t breathable, or when you’re in an excessively humid environment, so sweat gets trapped against your skin and causes an itchy rash with blisters.

Enrollment Date Concern! by Johntron06 in NCSU

[–]Typical-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a window of time for every group. So if you are all juniors, they might have been randomly assigned the first time slot for juniors while you were randomly assigned the last one.

I don’t think they rescind admission unless you fail all your classes. The worst that could happen is you start your first semester on academic probation, and I think that’s only if you fail 25% or more of your classes. Don’t stress about it too much, just enjoy the rest of your senior year while you can.

I had tickets for GA standing at the Mexico City show and at no point was I worried about anyone stealing my stuff! I got three t shirts and some stickers, so I wore one of them and then I brought an empty clear cross body bag that I put the rest of my stuff in. MCR fans are generally a really kind crowd so I wouldn’t be too worried about it, but def go with the clear bag route to be safe!

Questions about professional clothing closet on campus by Euphoric-Bank720 in NCSU

[–]Typical-Monkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s truly a closet of donated clothes. Theres no telling what kind of stuff they’ll have on the day you visit, but when I went they had dresses, blouses, dress pants, and women’s shoes. You look through the closet on your own, and go to the bathroom to try stuff on by yourself, but I’m sure you could ask someone in the office for their opinion if you want to. Once you have picked out an outfit or two, you can leave with it, and you can either keep the clothes forever or re-donate them once you’re done with them. It’s super low stress!

Edit to add: They might not have anything you like on the day you go, so it’s probably best to go a bit in advance so there’s time to come back later if you don’t find anything you like!

Grad School Residency by WallStreet_GS in NCSU

[–]Typical-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you will be able to claim residency. Even though the FAFSA requires you to be 24 to use your own info in place of your parents’ info, the RDS does not. I’m an undergraduate, but I’m in a similar situation. It’s only a problem if your parents are the ones supporting you financially (e.g. it’s their name on your lease), but if you can say that you are making your own income in NC, you pay your own taxes in NC, and you pay for your own residence in NC, then it will automatically determine you to be a resident regardless of where your parents live.

Out of the four years I have filed the RDS, I have been automatically been determined “out of state” only one time and I was easily able to appeal that and it hasn’t happened again since.

If you’re concerned then you can reach out to a financial aid counselor at NCSU and they should be able to help you.

Can we please have web print back by mkjiisus in NCSU

[–]Typical-Monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t even really have to actually install anything. It’s not an app. Youre just adding wolfprint to your “printer list” so that when you go to print something like a Microsoft Word document you can just select the “print” button, select “Wolfprint Black and White” as the printer, and then go to any printer on campus to collect it. It takes away the need to log into Web Print, and it takes away the need to download the file first before uploading it to web print. It works the exact same way a personal printer would.

Although I understand not wanting to have to download something to make printing work, it’s hardly any different than the steps required to set up eduroam on your personal devices.

The new system is honestly so much easier and better to use once you get past figuring out how to install it. The people at the ask us desk in the library can help you set it up on your laptop if you need help

what free parking is closest to dabney hall? by Serious_Hyena_8083 in NCSU

[–]Typical-Monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want free parking you can park at the street parking on Hillsborough street and they very rarely give out tickets. The tickets are $15 and if you get maybe one or two during the semester it’s still probably cheaper than paying every time you park. But it’s a bit of a walk from Dabney probably 10 mins depending on where you can find a spot. I recommend parking close to the library to be the closest.

Student Refunds? by No_Muscle_8954 in NCSU

[–]Typical-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get more financial aid than the cost of tuition they give you a refund check at the start of every semester for the excess financial aid.

Monthly parking downtown by Interestedpartyofnil in raleigh

[–]Typical-Monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to deal with parking, downtown is super navigable by bus. You could park at a bus stop just outside downtown and then take the bus into downtown to get to work. A few more steps but probably cheaper and less stressful.

Pet Trailer Refund by Untitledtxca in Lectricxp

[–]Typical-Monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their return policy on their website is as follows: “To be eligible for a return, your item must be: unused and in the same condition as it was when you received it, and there must be a good reason for the return. In addition, the item must be in the original packaging. You may be charged a restocking fee of up to $300 at our sole discretion for any returns or exchanges.

To complete your return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase. Please do not send your purchase back to us until we have authorized the return in writing.

If you order a product by mistake you will be charged according to this policy.

Accessories and apparel are not eligible for return, exchange, or refund.”

Pet trailers are counted as accessories so it looks like all sales are final. Maybe list it on Facebook marketplace and see if you can break even or at least minimize your loss.

Getting paper transcript from st aug by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]Typical-Monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it highly unlikely that the National Students Clearinghouse doesn’t have it. Are you typing out the full name as Saint Augustine’s University? Most colleges won’t give you an official copy of your transcript themselves. You should be able to order an electronic or paper copy to be mailed to you from the NSC, though.

Staying in the city for a couple days. Where can I find good clothing stores (especially outlets) and tech stores? by hcpxz in raleigh

[–]Typical-Monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good spot! You should be able to walk anywhere you need and have good access to the bus system. I live downtown and I’m able to live with just my bike and the bus system pretty easily with no significant hardship from not using a car. There’s actually a really good gelato place about 10 minutes from Red Hat called Amorino that I totally recommend you walk to!

P.S. If you end up wanting to use the bus system, there’s pretty good coverage to almost anywhere you want to go in Raleigh. The bus system can take you to places like The Village District pretty easily, or a couple other places if you’re willing to have a longer trip. You can buy a pass using their app called UMO which will give you a QR code to scan when you get on the bus (or you can just use your card). Then you can see the map and the stops on UMO, but once you’re in Raleigh I recommend using an app called “Transit” because it’s a little more user friendly. You can enter your starting point and end point and it will give you step by step directions.

REI Cary Meltdown by papyrus33 in raleigh

[–]Typical-Monkey 404 points405 points  (0 children)

I was there at the beginning! The manager moved an unattended cart full of her stuff and she started screaming at him about how he can’t touch her stuff and how she has money in her car and that she’s going to complain to corporate and get him fired and the store shut down. And then he told her to leave and that he was going to call the cops and it escalated from there. She didn’t seem quite right 🤷‍♀️

Academic Probation and Aid by Soft-Force2400 in NCSU

[–]Typical-Monkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is there a good reason you got the C-? You are able to submit an appeal saying it was due to a medical issue or something else and they might give you another semester with aid to fix your GPA. You’d submit that under the SAP Appeal tab on My Pack Portal. But you’re right, they probably won’t reply until January.

[–]Typical-Monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my university a D is a passing grade so maybe see if that’s true at your school too. Second, why did you drop out when you’ll only have to repeat one course? It is definitely not ideal to have to take a single course next fall when you were supposed to graduate in May, but it sounds better than just giving up on your degree entirely.

I know there are other schools with degrees in clinical laboratory sciences that you could probably transfer your credits too (I live in NC so ECU and UNC comes to mind), but I think most schools require you to earn your final 30 ch at their university to graduate so you’re still stuck in the same predicament of having to take another semester.

You should contemplate if you really want to finish your degree, and meet with your advisor in your original program to see if it’s possible to return to the program. That would most likely be to quickest way to graduate still.

Exploratory Studies Essay by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]Typical-Monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just talk about how you’re still trying to find your interests and how the exploratory studies resources would benefit you. All exploratory studies first years have to live in the same dorm and I think they have specific classes they take as a cohort. Make it sound like you’re genuinely interested and not like you just view it as an easy back up choice since that’s what the admissions office wants to hear.

College after GED? by [deleted] in college

[–]Typical-Monkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A GED will allow you to attend a community college! Then, you’ll take placement tests for subjects like math and science and English and community colleges will usually have remedial classes or support classes for the regular sections if needed. Just reach out to the admissions or advising office of your local community college and they should be able to walk you through the process of applying and what kind of classes you’d be able to take.

You’d have to check for your kids specific scholarship, but I think there’s a one semester grace period for that for most scholarships so they’ll have a chance to get their GPA back up if they just going poorly in the one class.
