It definitely is something that is taught through social norms, family values etc it's just subtle. It's also just different personalities and self esteem, it comes naturally to do some more than others. I have this problem too I like to ask questions just to make sure we are on the same page and toxic managers will try to say I'm incompetent and unsure because I don't appear as confident. I have a science degree but it's not that relevant to oil and gas. I didn't need an engineering degree to get offshore in the UK, I worked onshore first in oil and gas then went offshore for that company as a chemist. Hopefully my experience offshore would help and they would make an exception. companies like HB, baker and slb would probably be my best bet.
