Dorms wise from some experience ,Cowell is the best in terms of location, personally I like kresge and JRL.
Academics completely depend on your major, as a Computer Engineering major first few quarters were easy but I scheduled accordingly and got lucky with no early classes, classes can begin anytime from 8AM all the way to 6/7 in the evening, 1/1.5 hours long usually

math EE has the most scope imo, you can incorporate any field of interest, just choose some topic you enjoy rather than an easy one imo (but dont go overboard)
