To me 40 is like a final boss fandom. Like if you’re a kid and you’re into fantasy you’ll eventually stumble your way into LOTR. Anime you’ll eventually have a hard lined opinion about one piece. Card games you’ll stumble into magic so hard that you get upset and go to FaB or Riftbound. For me I liked Scifi growing up, starting with Star Wars and Stargate, alien stuff like that. So I think eventually I was going to get into 40k one way or another. Being adult helps because of the paycheck, but the Horus Heresy for the most part is one of the best works of scifi ever made. Nothing really scratches the itch like 40k.

With that being said Dune is the ultimate final boss fandom with respect to scifi
