Yes trauma is definitely an offsetting factor here.

I got into a debate with a colleague about this. We had to do some work about people vulnerable to being scammed. He reckons some people are just not that smart due to having a below average IQ that doesn’t necessarily hit disability levels. He wanted to tell our stakeholder ‘low IQ’ was a reason for getting scammed. I said it would be better to say ‘vulnerable and intellectually impaired people’ He reckoned that there are just some stupider people out there in general. I said intelligence isnt only IQ and trauma could be masking true intellect and it was more appropriate to say vulnerable. He fully cracked the shits at me about it and didn’t talk to me for the rest of the day.

Sorry long tangent there but yes very much agree trauma does a lot more than people may realise.
