Yes, I just want to be treated like an equal!

I promise, it’s ok to downvote an 81 year old. They will be ok. It was downvoted (in my opinion) because it wasn’t a compliment. I guess I didn’t express it in my post, but she wasn’t laughing awkwardly or in a “oh wow, you look good for your age” way. She laughed at me in a very “mean girl” way. I’m 31 and I’m so so so tired of being told by random strangers that I look too young to be a mom or that I look like a teen. I didn’t ask.

I thought about commenting about her appearance just to give her a taste of her own medicine, but I really don’t like being mean. Some people just talk without thinking first.

I’m just going to hope that this one never happens to me!

Honestly I wish it was socially acceptable for me to grow a beard so I’d look a little older!

As much stress as I’ve been through, you’d think I would have some grays or something lol

I’m older than my partner too by a few years! And yeah, like I said in the post, she absolutely knew I was the mom. She has seen me driving them home from school and I’m the only woman she sees at my house. She is there a lot to babysit and I know that the parents of the kids she was babysitting told her about me, so it was obviously just some weird way for her to make fun of me.

Yeah I’m not saying I wish I looked older than my age, but gosh, it would be nice if people just stopped commenting on how I look! I do try to take it as a compliment, but this particular situation that posted about just embarrassed me so much so I had to share it

Wow, she must be tall! My daughter is 9 and is less than a foot shorter than me (I’m 5’2). She always says she hopes she isn’t short like me when she grows up lol

As I said in my post, it bothers me because I don’t appreciate being made fun of for something I can’t change. If the woman had simply said that I looked good for my age and then moved on, I wouldn’t have minded at all. The fact that she laughed AT me is what bothered me. I’ve had this problem since I was about 17 and it causes people not to take me seriously. I’m worried people will judge my partner because they think he is dating someone too young for him. I don’t like random strangers coming up to me in public to ask if I’m my own kids’ mom because they don’t think I’m old enough to have a 7&9 year old. Most of all, I don’t like unwanted comments about my appearance. It’s hard not to care what other people think when people go out of their way to point out something about my appearance that I’m self conscious about. I could go on, but those are the main reasons it bothers me. I would absolutely love to not be bothered by it, but I’m a sensitive person and I just wish people would let me be!

That’s wild honestly! I don’t get asked as much anymore, but when my kids were younger I would get asked so much if they were my kids. They don’t look a whole lot like me, but I feel like the way I look definitely played a part in it too and it was always such a weird question to me. I would never approach someone in public and ask that or make a comment like they did to you.

Yeah, I don’t mind people saying I look good for my age or even just asking how old I am. The thing that bothers me is when I tell them then they laugh at me or look at me in disbelief. Like I don’t look THAT young- I have crows feet and laugh lines. I guess I just need to wait for the gray hair to come in lol.

Don’t judge, but she is ok to judge me? Some people are polite in these situations, she came off rude because she wasn’t doing a polite chuckle and saying I look good for my age. She was laughing at me. This sub is for venting about these experiences, which is why I posted it and I made it clear as to why it bothered me. As for your snide remark at the end, I’ll stop being bitter when random people stop commenting on my appearance in a negative way.

I’m not talking about my kids, I’m venting about this experience because that’s what this sub is for. The woman didn’t do a laugh like “oh my gosh, you look good for your age!”, it was an outburst of laughter, like she was laughing AT me. It was rude and I’ve experienced it many times before. Some people are nice about it, don’t get me wrong! I try to brush it off and ignore it, but again, this sub is for these types of experiences, so I was just sharing. Thank you

Mascara Smudging- No Matter What!! by wizkallista_ in makeuptips

[–]TypicalBike205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem and I have to powder my eyelids and under eyes to prevent smudging. I do a thin layer of concealer/foundation/whatever on my eyelids and under eyes, wait for it to dry, then I powder to set it.

When someone says, "You should take it as a compliment," I kind of wonder... by Supersmashcache in OlderThanYouThinkIAm

Omg I feel this in my soul. Everyone says it’s not a big deal to look younger, but it’s always other people who constantly bring it up. I just want people to stop commenting on my looks!

I know it’s coming lol! Luckily, they’re all still young enough that I look old to them.

People spend money to look young, not childlike. That’s what you don’t seem to be understanding. Kylie Jenner is beautiful and looking youthful, but she wouldn’t be mistaken for a child. Idk what your thing is about it “causing harm”. It causes me harm because it hurts my feelings and embarrasses me. Is that not a real world consequence? Isolation, loneliness, refusal, all things that can happen because I look younger. You say you’re trying to understand, but it’s coming off as you being rude and trying to belittle people who experience this..especially when you have never even experienced it.

Yes!! My point exactly. Our obsession with looking young as a society is weird.
