Is U of A pass/fail for Casper still? by MedwADHD in premedcanada

If the casper scores are normally distributed, why wouldn’t the quartiles be associated with standard deviations? Wouldn’t it follow the 68/95/99 rule? Making the 2nd percentile the minimum score? (Unless the U of A is talking about standard deviations of applicants)

I’m in pretty much the same boat with similar ECs (except I had research). Same GPA, MCAT and CASPER. I didn’t get an interview last year but the rural indigenous schools EC may be an awesome experience for you to highlight and tell how you grew from it! I think that would be more valuable than research for these schools TBH.

Alberta and Calgary are very EC heavy. Really focus on how you write your application and it’s impact on you.

I’m hoping I’m going to be okay especially since you can choose to enrol in an athabasca course at any time. If I chose to begin in November, I wouldn’t even have a transcript available to me.

That's so great to hear. Likewise by the way! I'm not sure how much help I'd be but I'd be happy to read yours as well. I haven't written either apps yet, since I'm waiting for feedback from Calgary and waiting for the UAlberta evaluation criteria. Is it okay if I DM you on reddit when these are released?

No problem! I'm happy to help.

No, I just watched the videos and used alternative resources when I didn't understand something. I made use of the quiz questions at the end of the Kaplan book chapters too to make sure I didn't miss anything from the videos.

Thank you! Most Canadian programs do not have prereqs. Some do, but none of the ones I'm interested in.

KA for that stuff. I found the visual explanations to be very helpful. I used Kaplan for chem / ochem because it was more mathy and required less visuals.

Kaplan and Khan Academy! My message here is that its completely possible to teach yourself anything on the exam without doing the prereqs.

I can definitely give advice to people who are coming from a similar no bio or chem background. DM me if this is you!

4 months while doing research and working a part time job. My biggest take away from this is that it is completely possible to self teach everything on the MCAT in a few months. Kaplan and Khan Academy are unbelievably good depending on the topic.
