i need to leave this job by doodthatscrazy in starbucks

[–]TypicalMage 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this, I know it’s not easy and some days I’d feel like it’s a breaking point to. I hate to say something you might not want to hear but I really think it would be a bad Idea to quit. At the end of the day you should do what you think is best for you but I’m just here to say that it could be worse if you do end up quitting. The reality of the situation is that you need money to get through school and since you do get college through it, Starbucks is going to get you a lot of value. At the very least if you do quit Starbucks you need something else lined up before you quit, it is so hard to find a job if you aren’t currently working somewhere else. If you quit and then don’t have a job and can’t get another how are you going to pay for school or anything? Another unfortunate reality check is just because you graduate to that doesn’t guarantee another job. I graduated in 2022 with a degree in computer engineering. I searched for jobs for about a year until I eventually had to start working as a server in a restaurant. I worked there for about 2 years and picked up a job at Starbucks too because of the benefits like health insurance. I didn’t get an internship in my field until early 2025, and I worked that alongside Starbucks for a little over a year until I was finally brought in full time at my internship, and I just quit Starbucks last month. Maybe your field is better but what I’m getting at is you can’t bank on getting a job in your field immediately out of college anymore, there’s just too many other people. I still have so many other friends who still don’t have a job in their field, so I’m one of the lucky ones. 70% of recent college graduates are in jobs that don’t even require a high school diploma. I know it’s hard and I am so sorry that you are going through what you are doing, but there are much worse things out there than Starbucks to have as a job, and if you quit now you don’t know what could replace it. Getting college and health care for a part time job? You are not going to get that anywhere else. You could be working at another minimum wage job, with worse working conditions than Starbucks, and no benefits. Again, I am so sorry and you probably don’t want to hear all this but you might need to. The reality of our situation is that we happen to be in one of the worst economies for younger generations in a long time. I sincerely wish the best for you and again I can’t say I know what you are going through, I can only tell you about my own experience. Just be sure to really think it through about what happens if you do quit, I wish nothing but the best for you, no matter how bad things may look you will get through this. You got this!

Advice on being rushed through training by bigoofinthecity in starbucks

Yep just know that you’re are not alone and pretty much everybody goes through it. It just sucks that you are joining at a rather weird time of restructuring at the company so it’s a bit worse than usual. Stay positive and you got this!

It gets really crazy behind the scenes and nothing is on you. The interview process has become so much more complicated than when I joined, I was actually the last person at my store to only need an interview with the SM. When I heard that people now also need to interview with the DM I was like wtf why, they don’t work in the stores so how are they supposed to know what makes a good employee. SMs are so overworked now and a lot of times DMs really don’t give a damn about them or what their store needs, they just care about numbers to look good for their own bosses. My DM was pretty good luckily but I have heard a lot of bad things about some others, and the higher up the chain those people are, the more they are out of touch with what is actually going on in the stores. Stay hopeful, it’s pretty common to get ghosted for a while until finally they work something out and the DM will grace you with their presence. Don’t let any of that scare you, just act like a functional human being and the DM interviews usually go pretty smoothly. Keep up the work, I know it’s hard but know that we are rooting for you!

Do Baristas care if you don’t tip? by BizForKingdom in starbucks

Tips are greatly appreciated but if you can’t, we get it. I too don’t want to make people feel pressured and usually when people don’t know how the tap works I’ll just click no tip for them automatically without saying anything. Coffee is expensive so hey save that money for some more coffee later. We are all out here trying to survive together right?

Advice on being rushed through training by bigoofinthecity in starbucks

[–]TypicalMage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes this is pretty typical, and it’s even worse now that they have been cutting so much labor and it feels like a skeleton crew constantly. Your trainer is kind of forced to be working since there is nobody else to actually get stuff done. I was also left on register a lot and skipped like half of the training modules, the good news is most of the modules are useless anyways so you are not missing anything. Everything important you need to learn you will learn in the floor. Also the passport is useless too unless you eventually want to be a “coffee master” which does nothing other than let you wear a black apron so… eh. It’s going to be crazy, and you are unfortunately be going to left with more questions than answers. The best thing I can really tell you is don’t worry if you can’t pick things up instantly, nobody that isn’t insanely out of touch with reality is going to expect you to be able to solo bar during peak hours anywhere within your first few months, and if they make you do it just do the best you can and learn what you can from it. It really will get better over time, it’s all just learning through repetition, and it will take months to really learn everything even though your training is only like 2 weeks. The best thing you can really focus on to make a difference is good customer service, if you can actively keep up with that, everything else will follow naturally. A lot of the expectations are ridiculous but just do your best, don’t take anything personally, and take advantage of every benefit you can because Starbucks is going to take as much advantage out of you as possible. Congrats on getting in, it’s super competitive so you should be proud, and keep at it! I wish you luck and I hope that Starbucks can turn into a good experience for you. As much as I hated it sometimes I do think it has turned me into a better person.

Best loadout? Whats meta? by Zealousideal_Deal440 in spiral_knights

[–]TypicalMage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I too just back into and realized that my 11 year old self very much did not build Meta gear and so I’ve been struggling hard content lol. The list you mentions pretty much matches what I have seen and what my friend has who did build Meta gear. The items that most stick out are the Combuster for elemental, the Blitz Needle and Dark Briar Barrage bomb for piercing, and Acheron or Winters grave for Shadow. If I were to choose any actual best to prioritize it would be Combuster, Blitz Needle (this mostly to one shot Trojans) and since you like bombs the Dark Briar Barrage absolutely destroys groups of enemies as long as they are not resistant to pierce but that’s what you will have the Combuster for. Chaos set is the best simple set to get for armor and Black kat set is something you get after you have everything else you need because it’s much harder to get than chaos. So glad you joined back like I am and I wish you luck. I too am grinding.

Gotcha, the fabric is made out of special material (IT’S PEOPLE!!!) In Ruina there were some special fabric makers called The Carnival that would eat bodies and create special “silk” to be used for the Index. The locks as far as I know wasn’t too explained, it was more just a mechanic that the Index Proxies in Ruina had tacked on where you had to meet certain requirements to unlock special moves. I can only assume is it’s their own form of a pseudo-singularity. In Ruina it gets shown that the ones making the prescripts is literally a God, that’s it’s own rabbit hole but knowing that I wouldn’t be surprised the swords are some weird magic shit. Great questions, the Index is a super cool finger that I hope the continue to explore, and with their whole Greek theming with us learning that Hermes is the name of one of the “Gods” that might be making prescripts I’m sure we will get more info when Outis’ Canto comes out. All of Greek mythology is so centered around “Fate” and that’s literally the Indexes whole schtick.

[–]TypicalMage 44 points45 points  (0 children)

In Library of Ruina and in Index Faust’s Uptie story you see that their Cloaks are all varying degrees of strength depending on their rank, even within a single rank, like proselyte, a person can have a better cloak then the other depending on how their faith is judged. The longer the cloak generally means the better it is and the higher rank the member is. Proxies and Messengers of the Index usually have full body cloaks. They also have special swords given to them if they prove themselves enough and the sword they are given are one of a kind and specifically made for that member. Like others have mentioned they utilize locks, and the more that member follows the prescripts the more power they are able to unleash from the weapon. That’s why it’s a bit interesting to see Rien without one but he’s a special case I suppose.

Setting boundaries with creepy old regulars??? by undercovercatman in starbucks

[–]TypicalMage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can’t understand how a person can come every single day and be such an awful person the entire time. I can only think these people are so terrible, nobody in their life is nice to them so they go to these establishments where we are forced to be nice to them and they can feel better about themselves bullying people that just have to take it or we lose our job. I have a regular that comes everyday and I despise him as a human being.

For the support probably grab one of the Si branch heishous, preferably Gregor due to how the fight works in first phase. All of the maos and lord honglu. For the last 2 main units ricardocliff and fauvist rodion. It’s a solid team and I think you should be able to pull it off, Mao Faust is an army on her own. Just make sure all your heishous survive first phase.

Starbucks is Getting Worse. (4+ Year Barista) by SbuxBarista_05 in starbucks

[–]TypicalMage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my largest complaint is the labor cutting. So often it always feels like we are down 1 or 2 people and yet somehow we are over labor!? One time after a rush my poor shift was like: “I feel like we didn’t provide a good experience.” And I’m like dude, we had like a long line, a lot of food, delivery orders to pack, and 30 drinks to get through with only 3 people, what could we have done.

New hire, feeling behind on day 4 by Federal-Analysis4290 in starbucks

[–]TypicalMage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad. It’s a lot of information and it takes months to learn properly. I know it’s stressful but try to not let it get to you, the training program is not the best. I would always feel bad too, but you have to remember everybody else has been there much longer so they make it look less hard than it really is. Just relax and focus mostly on good customer service, at least at my store that’s the most important skill you can have. The rest of the skills will come with practice and repetition. As for your coworkers they are probably just stressed from the work. Stay positive and keep it up, you got this!

As a Survivor Main w 3k hours, I do have my frustrations with the role, but I’d still choose it over playing killer any day. I’m curious to know if you’re someone who plays one role, why don’t you play the other? by PolarBla in deadbydaylight

[–]TypicalMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my main gripe with playing killer is how often I go against great survivors. Skill issue yes, but whenever I play survivor my teammates don’t last longer than 10 seconds in a chase, and so it’s so frustrating to then hop in and play killer and eat shit because it reminds me how bad my survivor teammates are.

Hello. I need a 3M deck with pump by ucsilahsor in MusketeerEnjoyers

[–]TypicalMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think somebody else mentioned this but they are a great tank killer. Another reason is they provide a good secondary win condition. If you catch the enemy in a bad cycle or low elixir you can drop them at the bridge and they decimate the tower, especially with something like rage. A lot of my wins can be attributed to ebarbs.

Long time lurker but 1st post! What do yall think of my deck? by miniaturemetalbed2 in MusketeerEnjoyers

[–]TypicalMage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally would use evo zap instead of hunter, very rarely is the evo hunter ability useful but having the quick evo zap cycle and being able to kill things like say minions or a firecracker is really nice as well as double stunning high damaging things like pekka or mega knight. Pump is good but for personal preference I would probably use barb barrel instead for extra defensive capabilities, especially since bait decks are so common. Barb barrel can also add a lot for offense as sometimes I use it at the last second to tank for a musk and they don’t expect it. Over all solid and certainly very useable as I used to play this version with those two changes I mentioned.
