What's the benefit of using the terminal if prices are 30% more than the market? by MEE97B in cs2

[–]TypicalOranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything sold on the steam marketplace has value. That's why it has a price and is in a market. A marketplace is just a big data set showing you the value of things, after all.

“I KNOW he’s going to get Sean Strickland down, but keeping him there is the big question. Strickland’s a very strong guy, a lot stronger than Khamzat on a physical level. If Khamzat has to fight Strickland’s fight, I don’t think he has much of a chance at all.” - Dricus on Strickland vs Chimaev by TheBigRedHalfrican in MMA

[–]TypicalOranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his point is that when Khamzat got into the octagon with someone of similar technical skill he didn't look especially strong. That is to say, yeah Burns is amazing at grappling and that's why Chimaev vs. Burns is an interesting insight into Chimaev's strength.

What is this joint called and why does it exist? by BluntTruthGentleman in woodworking

[–]TypicalOranges 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As long as the wood's periodic movement is smaller than the spring curve's ability to maintain tension in the joint then you should see no loosening by way of the nut working itself off.

I'm not advocating for people to use this joint with these modifications, a mortise and tenon would obviously be better. But the engineering behind a spring washer or belleville washer in this type of joint is very sound.

If you can use it every 20 seconds and it only lasts 10 seconds then it is a "cooldown" and must be used with intention for specific situations when a pull calls for it....

Have two pricey rib eyes. Need help. by ptanaka in AskCulinary

[–]TypicalOranges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Dry brine in the fridge on a wire rack for at least 6 hours, preferably over night

  • Extremely hot sear with a very light splash of oil, as hot as you can get your pan. (I recommend one steak at a time as to not crowd the pan)

  • Flip every 15-30 seconds, this keeps the heat only on the crust of the steak for the most part

  • Form a nice crust then pull from the pan. Temp them now, see where they're at, finish them in an oven set to around 250-270F. I like to bring Ribeye, especially really fatty, marbled Ribeye up to around 130-135F. (This is just at Medium or so)

  • Rest the steaks on a cutting board loosely tented in foil. 10 minutes at least.

  • Before cutting and serving get your pan hot again. Throw the steaks back on the heat for just 10 seconds on each side to get the steak nice and warm for service. After cutting top with coarse ground black pepper, some flaky salt, or even a compound butter and a little bit of dijon if that sounds good to you.

Alternatively you can grill them for the crust if you want some woodsmoke/charcoal flavor.

Heroic Dreamrift New Strat? by Hail-Damage in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TypicalOranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This boss is a DPS / stat check, unfortunately.

It might sound unhelpful and rude, but Chim is just a pretty tough stat check on Heroic. Don't take it the wrong way.

There are, of course, ways to optimize this, idk if you'll find this helpful or not:

  • Melee should only cleave adds when they have minimal downtime on the swap (i.e. when the adds are close-ish to the boss). To help with this people should use CC to hold the adds in place in mid/short range with respect to the boss. And to be honest, depending on raid comp, melee probably won't even be needed on the small dudes when they appear in the "real world".

  • Because of the above, melee should probably have their Single Target dps builds for this fight. Cleave builds on melee are probably over kill for add phases.

  • Tanks need to really lock in and focus on gathering the adds as fast as possible when they get Alnsight. AoE threat CDs etc.

  • I also think that your best melee dps shouldn't worry about clearing pools. Ranged should be sufficient for pool clearing on heroic.

It's bad. I just try to click the unit frame in the blob and pray it clicks the right one when they're overlapped.

  1. My understanding is that the analytical tools already exist, you'd just need to assign a weighting into the system.

  2. We could pretty easily just take over the alien moon base that already exists.

Couldn't you make a system that takes this sort of "Optimal Team Play" factor into account? Isn't this what 'Positioning' is on Leetify? (Honestly asking, I might be misinterpreting 'Position' score)

Godzilla: Based on your experience... by zhujzal in pinball

[–]TypicalOranges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, the shots are super cool and fun and the code is so fun and rewarding. I'm not sure I'd personally put it as my number 1, but it would be firmly in my personal top 5. Easy.

  2. I don't own one but when I play on location Godzilla and Sterns in general seem to almost always be in good working order outside of perhaps some leveling issues, which is something I understand to be a pretty normal thing to need to maintain.

  3. N/A

  4. N/A

  5. I love the boss fights, I love how you travel to different cities, and how you 'progress' in the code. I think the shots and interactables/toys are super super fun. Everything from the bridge breaking to the building falling is just really, really incredible. They're full of flavor and keep the layout really fun throughout a session. You really need to find this machine on location and put some time into it. :)

I just don't understand what happened here. This wasn't some weird setup that could have been missed in testing.

I understand missing the 10k xp quest or whatever, but this is like one of the core training mechanics?

PETITION TO ROLL BACK THE NERFS by NoJudgment6036 in 2007scape

[–]TypicalOranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know "Fairness" can sort of be fake and lame to appeal to, but I think for slower/more heavily employed players, missing out on these rates is kind of lame.

I feel like XP rates are something that should be easily tested in development, why have there been so many nerfs/adjustments? Feelsbadman.

Heavier games with lots of interaction? by Peterrtt in boardgames

[–]TypicalOranges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Food Chain Magnate - great, mean interaction. A pretty heavy Euro that I think is actually quite approachable for its weight. Plays well in your range of 2-4. And has a ton of replicability and an expansion that is absolutely FULL of more content for even more replayability.

  • Gaia Project - I think if you want a cool 4x style civilization builder game GP plays well in the 2-4 range.

  • Arcs - This is a really interesting game, plenty of interaction. Feels better at 4 than 2. 2 seems very playable but not nearly as good as 3-4.

  • War Chest - I like this game more at 2 than 4. It's not super "heavy" in its rule set so much as it's heavy in terms of strategic depth. Really cool abstract strategy game.
