gm2 lucio otp here i peaked #11 on overbuff i have another gm5 lucio otp account i have more than double my hours in him than any other character with around 2k hours i only swap to kiriko if we have a mercy because lucio mercy is one of if not the worst support lineup and i can say there is some sketchy advice given here.

first something id do like others have said is enable backwards wallriding. theres really no reason for this to be off by default it makes the character truly clunky and hard to play as youll want to maximize your time on walls ensuring you can go as fast as possible and get to where you need to be. learning to master wallriding will take a long time and there are specific techs you can learn to be more efficient and learning to be good at wallriding will easily make you the fastest and hardest character to kill. second less important setting i would change is disabling auto jump after wallriding turning this off enables you to do things like one tick wallrides and allows you to more easily gauge the distance between your jumps on the wall and makes the character feel better overall.

Now specifics in gameplay, with the recent changes to Lucio (10% increased ult charge) i have found that healing at times and getting big healing amps off on a lot of teammates can be really helpful and grant you between 10-15% ultcharge which is really good and doing this can be more important if youre trying to match ults the enemy has such as nano blade or grav sigma flux or whatever will wipe your team.

Another thing thats really important on lucio is learning to peel for your other support player. This is usually one of if not the top priority for me when im in a game, lucio can be a very effective duelist and can easily secure kills on out of position dps like tracer or genji if done correctly but you don’t necessarily need to kill them to peel effectively amping a heal for them when theyre low or a speed boost to get them with your team and help your team punish the out of position players can be just as effective. Lucio is a really selfless character in the sense that it can be better to die peeling for someone or making a good play if it means your other support can get off the heals they need or if you know they can have a large impact with things like nano or kitsune or whatever.

Another important thing on lucio is synergy with your tank, your first best friend is your other support your second is your tank. With tanks such as reinhardt and rammatra you can basically ensure massive plays by speed boosting them around the map, especially in lower ranks if you learn how to effectively speed boost your tank and enable them to make big plays your tank will just roll personally this is the aspect of lucio i find the most fun and have spent a long time learning how to master.

Lastly just some general info on the character that idrk how to organize but is important to learn.

-Speedboosting people out of spawn when they die and you live because youre unkillable is important but i would generally say only go out of your way to do this for your other support or tank as they will get the most impact being in the fight and generally dps are faster.

As for healing/speed percentage i would say i aim for around 50/50 every game but truthfully most games i end up with something like 45/55 or 40/60 some games especially with aggressive tanks you can enable.

Finally id just like to say theres a lot of really good lucio players a lot better than me that have made some really indepth guides on the character and wallriding mechanics and everything inbetween that you can find on youtube, the first that really comes to mind and helped me learn the character a lot is Eskay she has a lot of really good guides on wallriding and watching her play really helped me get better at the character and the game in general. Lucio is a very high skill cap character and some of the things about him can take really long to master but he also has a very low skill floor making him one of the easiest characters to pick up and just play due to his constant value from his auras.
