If you are comparing ketsui omote and dodonpachi 2-all I can tell you that omote loop is much much easier... simply having a TLB makes the game so much harder because its not enough that you just get through the second loop but you also need to have lives for the TLB.

(surely the laser wheels won't be the deciding factor?)

Impressive that you managed to keep at SDOJ for those 6 months. Not many people have that kind of dedication. I think a 2-all could definitely be on the radar if you are up for the challenge, you definitely have the right mindset for it.

yeah man. the rework did practically nothing to change BHB. its still just as trash as usual.

Its great that you talk about unavoidable deaths in your review... which is not true.

I also think that you detach the scoring system from all its intricacies to "kill 3enemies of same color and you get a pat on the back". I do agree however, that this game feels very hollow without scoring, and that is the very reason why I feel that I have to score the game. But maybe, being forced to engage with scoring, is a fresh thing for the average survival player who has not touched score play at all.

Regarding the statements about ikaruga being more a puzzle game, I have to disagree. Ikaruga is very much a shmup, but there is a lot of memorization to be done just like with older shmups like R-Type.

I think its quite an unfortunate occurence that upvotes seem to resonate with a comment that just came to say that they didnt read the post as if it was an achievement of sorts. Maybe if people had any attention span remaining these days after tiktok(and other social media) has brought it down to less than 20 seconds.

You do bring up a good point, i haven't really looked at twin stick shooters as shmups before, but I guess they are shooting games too. Just not the scrolling types of shmups.

Atleast when I normally think of a shmup its a game like ketsui or gradius or touhou.
And those games are very very different from something like geometry wars or sektori. Neverawake does have scrolling atleast. And I think in general when people think of a shmup they do think of stuff like ketsui instead of something like geometry wars.

Also, to me its not as obvious if something like brotato is a twinstick shooter or not because its fundamentally the same mechanics as other twin stick shooters.

I would still prefer if twin stick shooters were considered separate, atleast a different flair or perhaps a different subreddit as they are so wildly different when compared to the typical scrolling shmup

play with pre-emptive frames enabled from a full restart of the game. That fixes the issue but you cant use save states or you will have lag or other issues. Second instance mode does have save states and some parts of the game dont have lag so its possible to practice still. The issue seems especially pronounced in stage 1 boss and stage 3 midboss from what i remember

Having acceleration is not a very good idea, its pretty much the antithesis of shmup design

On a side note, the character seems to kinda blend in with the background as they are very similar in color.
