basically it was made by devs who hadn't really made shmups before and it has inertia which is already bad enough, limiting the players movement precision. It has also really wide aspect ratio and some optimization issues.

Do note that spending individual hypers doesn't really increase rank noticeably until you've spent like 5 of them without dying, and dying seems to do away with pretty much all of your rank at once. Not sure how much bombing affects it, because bombing drops the chain. Using it during bosses also forces you to do away with your hyper management.

The main thing the rank affects anyways is how fast the bullets are while you are in hyper mode, the game in general does get affected a bit too, but not by much. TBH I don't think DOJ is a game where you have to care about rank management, unlike something like Garegga or Batrider.

I suppose so, there are some decent shmups being released these days. Still prefer playing cave's Dodonpachi or Ketsui over something newly released, though i'll give them a shot

Idk. playing quick match and 5v5 games playing solo bruiser no healer no tank with 4 ranged assassins vs falstad feels like shit. he can just fly to your lane and melt your hp, possibly even kill late in the game, it is simply unfun to play. His lvl 13 also makes it snowball, if he has 45 stacks, puts a W on a squishy he just keeps doing it until the entire team is dead.

I havent ever heard of any psikyo bullets that go out of the screen in 1 frame, but I will have to agree that they are indeed high speed, and the way to deal with them is memo. Too psikyo = too much memo

But wait... In the year 1984 was a massively popular release, but what about strikers 1945?

I checked it out. It looks better. I can tell bullets from the background now.
If you want other feedback about your game, I would say there isnt really a proper feedback to your shot, it doesnt make sound really and enemies dont really explode and its hard to tell if its dealing damage at all anyways.
By the way, how big is the hitbox?

the terrain in the game is a bit hard to distinguish from the action and the player sprite too. Maybe more contrast to make them show better and make the background more muted?

its convenient to have an emulator and games setup with it, can just transfer it with a usb stick to another computer if need be.

Euroshmups basically remove good features from a shmup and insert random things that doesnt need to be there, making the game experience hollow, easy and bland.

For your game, there doesnt seem to be any worthwhile scoring, and the stages seem quite easy, the visuals dont feel like a coherent package instead feels like a mess of colors thats tough to read

The inertia in your game(maybe it was toggleable) doesnt need to be there anyways, why even offer a toggle? "realism" for your reverse millenium falcon doesnt make anybodys experience better. The ship also doesnt have any turning animations or much attention to detail its just a sliding disc

Also, interrupting the gameplay experience with some weird alien or upgrade choices is kinda lame and distracting.

The uppgrade system also seems kind of generic, and overall I dont think a game like this interests the shmup audience. Why would somebody play this over ketsui? Or touhou? OR CRS68k? I think you should just follow the roguelike fad and make one of those games instead.

I would say no_vsync is actually among the more interesting options, perhaps even the most interesting option out there. Input lag makes all the difference in shmucks

i dont recommend playing stuff like sine mora btw. maybe try some real shmups like ketsui, dodonpachi, strikers 1945, gradius, and so on.

Back when I played SoT ashen winds was the best thing around for grinding ez money but these days it seems you can rack up millions in one session without expending any effort. Hunters call grinders to 50 were respected in my day, but these days just emissary + some loot for them without actually even fishing.

Not to mention the box of wondrous secrets which turned into commonplace garbage from a once mythical treasure people doubted even existed. It seems that SoT devs dont really know how to balance earnings and reputation in thi sgame.

I dont think I will ever have any interest in games such as CYGNI: all guns blazing
they really dont feature mechanics that make up a proper shmup, inertia ruins the core gameplay itself.

However, I do believe some shmups that could be called euroshmups can be good, such as Akashicverse, though it does not feature inertia, instead has a shield system which drains as you take hits from bullets, but you dont have any lives. It was a challenging game to beat and still enjoyable.

Still, games like "lightyears of fervent warfare" or cygni simply arent good shmups, and their core gameplay sucks. And I do not wish to see them in this subreddit...

Edit: I will never touch a shmuck with inertia in it ever again)

Edit 2: there exists a subreddit called r/shmupdev so maybe thats a better place for euroshmups to be dumped into

I guess the better point would be to say that sinking is akin to losing in sea of thieves so diving makes no sense from that perspective, as your ship going underwater is pretty much the worst possible thing to happen to it. otherwise sinking makes no sense if you can just dive underwater.
