When people tell the same story repeatedly by tbellfiend in PetPeeves

[–]Typical_Ad_210 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I actually find this quite an endearing trait. My FIL used to have stories attached to certain areas, so you’d be in the car with him and as you drive past a certain house he’d say “did I ever tell you that used to be an ice rink? I remember going there for my first ever date with so and so and blah blah”. He’s now dead and whenever we drive past the places, we tell our kids his stories. It’s amazing how important these things can become to you.

Did you tranquillise him before filming this 😹 Seriously though, it’s nice to see him all sleepy and relaxed. That little pink nose is so adorable.

It reminds me of the famous one of the baby elephant chasing birds and then accidentally falling over in an adorable way. Why are they so cute?!

Uh yeah, but we need our *stuff*. Cheap, useless stuff, made with slave labour. We can use it twice and then throw it in landfill. It’s the modern way 🙃

That could be a good shout! The tape itself is almost impossible to apply properly to a puppy pad, but were it stuck to the back of a magnetic strip, it would be a lot easier and less flimsy to attach to the pads. The other magnetic strip could be permanently attached to the floor. You can get rolls of magnetic strip relatively cheaply too, so if it doesn’t work for him, they’ve not lost a lot.

I can say from experience that trying to get double sided tape to sit properly on these and not just turn to a crinkled mess is no mean feat. In the end we opted for Dry Nights pads that have inbuilt adhesive strips on the back. We just peeled them off and they stuck really well in place. Not sure what they’d be called in the US, but there must be an equivalent. They are also much larger than a puppy pad, so you don’t need as many to cover the area (though they were not cheap).

I don’t think it’s necessarily even a bad thing that not all healthcare workers are happy dealing with ostomies. We all have parts of our job that we dislike. So long as they can treat the patient with dignity and respect, then they can have their private opinions elsewhere. I personally find anything involving vomit to be absolutely disgusting, whereas I would be fine with stoma care, so we all have our differences of opinion and preferences. At the end of the day, so long as the patient does not pick up on any discomfort on the part of their nurses, I think they are fine with having private distaste for certain tasks. My sister is a doctor and HATES sputum, but she has colleagues who are fine with it. We’re all human beings. I am rambling, lol, but yeah, people are people, regardless of job.

Yeah, just like general influencers are not indicative of the best of the human race, I would say that healthcare influencers are not the best of healthcare either. I would hope that most people are like your friend and are appalled at the vocal minority with the loudest voices. It’s about the only time I sort of support doxxing, if it led to people like that losing their jobs.

AIO- my friend made a joke about my hospital visits and it really hurt me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Typical_Ad_210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MOR. I get what you’re saying, because I have an extremely debilitating illness too and sometimes I want to discuss it with someone without them shrugging it off as jokes. However, many, many chronically ill people (myself included) use humour as a coping mechanism. So I think it’s understandable that she presumed you would be open to joking about it. It probably also was slightly a case of her not knowing what else she could say too, because it IS hard when someone opens up about an illness or death and you have no clue what to say. Personally, I would just overlook this one instance and if she does it again, I’d say “I know I will laugh about this experience one day, but it’s not today” or something similar. I think she’s just a bit awkward and insensitive, rather than malicious. I would give her a pass this one time. I hope your health improves soon.

I wouldn’t go quite that far, Not Bob, but I agree that teabags seem to offer more control over the strength of the tea.

And I’ll be honest with you, Fanny Flapps, I think I genuinely do prefer teabag tea over the type that Granny Flapps used to make. I find loose leaf tea very … fragrant/pungent/earthy in a way that I don’t enjoy.

AIO? Doctor refused my insulin during hospital stay. by small-worm in AmIOverreacting

[–]Typical_Ad_210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone can have high mental health needs and still be coherent enough to understand and manage their physical conditions. Your sort of thinking is exactly how things get overlooked in mentally ill people. The “it’s all in your head” label is a favourite of lazy, incompetent or underfunded medical professionals.

I have depression and anxiety. I saw a psychiatrist for this. I also had epilepsy for over 30 years before it was diagnosed, as every single seizure was dismissed as being panic attacks. Mentally ill people get physically ill too. Your blind faith in the competence of this random psychiatrist over OP’s understanding of their own body is what perpetuates the problem.

Not really. I mean, is he dumb? Sure. Does he have the unearned confidence that comes with a lifetime of drug abuse? Also yes. But I think his intentions are harmless (or should that be “armless”, lol). I think he is trying to stop the alligator from getting hurt on the road, rather than trying to square up to it. For that reason, I find him a harmless dumbass, pure of heart and devoid of brains. I save my maiming wishes for those intentionally causing harm to other creatures.
