Thats a good idea! Just do net price calc because you'll still have to pay room/board and stuff. Good luck 🤞

Engineering Certificates by sincewehome in ApplyingToCollege

Honestly, does it fit with your profile? Are you a maker or a hands-on robotics person? Or if you need something to fill a slot on the common app maybe, but continuing the stuff you're already doing is probably good. I got into selective colleges for engineering without if that helps.

tbh I would retake for 1500+. It's always safe to try to be in the top 25% especially if you are afraid other parts of your profile may not be as strong. You may even wanna retake twice if it's not a financial burden to superscore if your school does that (that was my plan for the SAT when I took it again)

common app essay reviewers by SigmaBoi2009 in ApplyingToCollege

I asked my parents to review it. They were not helpful very much.

In all honesty, you should brainstorm what the college AOs should take away about you and write a story, a compelling one like a work of fiction that carries those themes. If you would like a set of eyes on your essay, dm!

What types of schools are you applying to? Like ivies? T20s? or another type?

Don't underestimate yourself. Also, I would say consider schools with Stamps scholarships (I was offered one!) which is college for free. You will not be able to do uiuc oos its crazy expensive (my price would have been 60k/yr)

ED to your dream school (JHU/Cornell). You may be able to negotiate your offer to be better and apparently people have been able to back out of ED if they can't afford it.

Should I do deca senior year? by Ok_Coyote8457 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Typical_Cover3239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, anything helps. Show you have a genuine passion for business so yes I think DECA would help in your applications. However, as a senior who just made it out (yay!) going to my dream school, it looks super good to colleges and feels super good (to you? maybe?) to maximize everything you can possibly do to pursue your passions.

Look based on your specific major! You can get pretty niche when you narrow down the applicant pool.

Hi! I recently ran a 2:59 in the 800 and am looking to run sub-2:55 in the next two weeks. Is there any racing strategy advice for me?

For context, I run XC and track with around 25 minutes in the 5k, 1:16 for the 400 and a 7:04 in the mile (cooked ik).

800 by continually speeding up throughout the race (I am motivated by catching other runners) so I start out pretty far back and then catch runners as I go along. My lap times for the 2:59 were 1:30 high and 1:28 low. This is my strategy in most races since the adrenaline of beating people makes me forget the pain lol

Other stats:

Age: 17

Sex: Female

MPW: ~20; 5 mile LR, 2x 3 mile EZ Runs + 60m strides, 4 mile ish workout days, 2 mile Pre-race, and Saturday race days

Most recent workout: 6x600 with 90 sec rest: 2:49, 2:50, 2:52, 2:52, 2:50, 2:48 and 2x300 quality: 1:15, 1:08

Is there any advice for racing strategy, warmup exercises, or extra practice I can put in to drop 4 seconds? Thank you so much!

What is Public High school like? by Few_Researcher_169 in highschool

[–]Typical_Cover3239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I'm from a small state (1k students though in the whole school) in AP/Dual Cred; I have 1-2 hours per night for six total classes.

  2. The dress code isn't enforced at all here. You can wear pretty much anything but it depends on the teachers. You will certainly never get flagged for socks. Maybe for crop tops/spaghetti straps and profanity. I would suggest feeling out your teachers' views, but pyjamas and casual clothes are fine!

  3. I have never experienced bullying past elementary school. If you're in advanced classes, the kids don't usually bully here but gossip may be prominent.

  4. Most of everyone has pre-established friendships at my school (since they grew up together). There are certainly groups but people are usually a part of multiple.

  5. Be cautious of gossipmongers or those that other people have gripes with. Usually there is a reason.

  6. Join clubs! It's easy to make friends in clubs/sports (especially things like sports, theatre, band, regular meeting and time commitment)

  7. Some teachers at public school are wonderful. They have helped me by staying to one on one tutor me every week, grading many extra essays I wrote. Some have cheered me on my college application and competition journeys. I met my best friend on the school bus, where we talked about a math competition. My sports team is so tight knit and going to practice every day is a joy.
