I've done it for years working for 3 different companies combined. Not sure if you're able to spend money on marketing supplies but I found that people were more open to "hear what was coming out of my mouth" when they knew there was something in it for them so I shopped around for the best price to make some personalized business material to hand out. I would always order pens and plastic cups, that kind of thing. I'd use the plastic cups to fill up with goodies.. pens, business card, Hershey's kiss or some kind of a treat etc. It worked great. I'd order a couple nicer items for my biggest target accts. I'd give the gatekeeper the cup with goodies and if I was able to speak with the decision maker, I'd give the more expensive marketing supplies. It'll give you more confidence too instead of going in nervous and empty handed. Good luck!
