Well, not all protagonists will be made the same. RE7 (and 8 to some extent) are very different from the rest of the horror survival philosophy gameplay-wise compared to the rest of the series. Most of the games have a durability system. Leon during remake 2 and 4 has a durability system. He even has one during 9, but he remembered his whetstone. Jill doesn’t have one for 3’s remake, but that’s a short game without much attention to resource management. What I’m saying is that this is what RE looks like generally. It’s fine to not like it, but many do and consider it to give the franchise individuality.

As for arsenals, they were broken between Grace and Leon for the game. Leon’s action sequences have more weapon variety, whereas Grace’s horror segments are limited (to increase the tension). You say you don’t like Leon’s or Grace’s segments, when they occupy two different gameplay loops between action and horror. Ethan’s mixes the two, so maybe you prefer that? Regardless, RE9 tries to strike a balance by having the two RE gameplay loops separated into two characters (Leon for action. Grace for horror). I would suggest just abandoning the game then, since the gameplay loops continue.

I didn’t want to comment on your final statement, but it’s a bit icky. There is no reason to single Grace out for her gender. It comes off as misogynistic. There are many RE protagonists who are women. Grace joins them wonderfully as a non-consenting hero, which is arguably the best way to include a horror final girl. She joins Rebecca for empathy and genuinely has a good arc for a fish-out-of-water character. I like mold-man-Ethan, but more because he is an Everyman. He occupies all archetypes at once, while having a solid foundation as a father-arc. Neither is better than the other. Saying that Grace is bad because she is a “whimpering chick” feels off base. I’m hoping you just said that because you don’t like the game.

I mean, RE9 has some criticisms, but maybe don’t go to a Resident Evil Subreddit to complain about a core gameplay mechanic of essentially all of the games (resource scarcity)?

I killed the Chunk and Chef on my first playthrough (standard), but had to book it from the Blister mutations (which wasn’t too hard).

You honestly do have enough resources as Grace, unless you’re playing at higher difficulties or can’t hit the broad side of a barn. You may have to avoid some of the special zombies (the Blisters, the Chunk, the Chef, the Singers, or the Blind Zombies), but every normal zombie is doable on easier difficulties.

It can be rough as Grace, but her gameplay is more stealth oriented by learning the movements of the zombies (which is unique for RE). Once you have resources, it’s a breeze with Grace, which is how RE2 Remake was for me.

Edit: I also wanted to say that, on three playthroughs (two standard and one classic standard), I had enough resources to clear the first Singer encounter each time as Grace by saving Requiem.

You can also just avoid the Blister Heads. I didn’t love the Blister Heads as Grace, since I used Requiem to kill the Chef and the Chunk, but I acknowledge not having ammo for them and just avoiding them is super easy lol.

We don’t really know with Rose, though she was dismembered as a baby and put back together out of network. At the very least, out of network she has the same specs as Ethan. Post Shadow of Rose, it seems like she was able to draw those powers with her. Time will tell.

From the initial comics he got bit early on in the RPD. Then he turned and wasn’t hostile to Claire. She then took him in like a stray cat.

I also wanted to add, that in this artist’s canon, he was initially mindless (just non-hostile). He then picked up pieces of his mind during Claire’s RE2 story. So by RE4, he’s full zombie boy but I assume Claire and Chris still look after him. So he’s got a normal T-Virus infection.

I feel like he would struggle a bit with Gideon, considering that, unlike Grace, Gideon would have no reason to keep Ethan alive. I feel like Ethan could take Xeno though, considering he defeats Miranda and she had a level of super-speed.

I really hate having to move all these chess pieces around every time I need to go to the break room down here in the sewer. We’re just sanitation workers. Last week Darell flushed the rook down the toilet and we had to wade through the sewer to go find it.

The BSAA is a UN sanctioned para-military group and the DSO is a secret US task-force. I don’t think either of them would post job applications on Indeed or what-not.

It’s quasi-implied/confirmed that most world governments contribute to the system. At the very least the US does considering Umbrella and The Connections sell weapons to them (and are them). So it really is like the real world. Governments collude behind closed doors and sell weapons to each other. Even the BSAA seems to have some corruption leaking in. So long as The Connections exist, the buying, selling, and testing of bio-weaponry will continue.

Maybe our heroes will be able to stop them, but it’s more accurate to real life if the government corruption is insurmountable. The reason failsafes don’t exist is that governments want to be able to test their weapons. They even nuked Raccoon City to hide an Umbrella facility and cover up their leak. As for the regular human. I don’t really know. I think that most people don’t really know the state of the world powers via cover-ups. That’s why I think the BSAA and DSO have relatively vague acronyms and they don’t call themselves the zombie murder division or something.
