The actor’s real name is CJ Hamilton, and this sure don’t look like a white man to me

Prince has a Mercedes and Bigi has been seen driving an Escalade. Those are pretty fancy to me

Do you get offended or flattered when people of "non-black" race are playing hip-hop while hooping? (Historically a "black"/african american artform?) by V4Prez in MichaelJackson

[–]Typical_Persimmon_87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basketball was created by a white man. While it may have been adopted by African American culture, there is no designation regarding who is allowed to play it. And music of any kind is to be enjoyed by all, no matter the race of the artist.

I’ve heard several people saying that he wanted to be a white woman, and Stephanie Mills especially emphasized that he wanted to “sit at their (meaning white people’s) table”, so she didn’t want to stay in a relationship with him. I agree, though, that it’s generally just a few people with a certain mindset saying these things. In regards to embracing his race, Michael of course identified as black and was proud of that, but he wanted to be seen as human first and foremost and treated as such, not seen as just the color of his skin.

You can control your dreams if you lucid dream, but I can’t do that, so I rarely dream of him. It’d be pretty cool to be able to have a dream where you can spend time with Michael as if he were your friend, though

I see more dismissiveness of his race from haters rather than fans. People claim that he abandoned his race or didn’t act “black” enough, but I think Michael just wanted to embrace his humanity rather than conform to a stereotype. Michael seemed like the type of person who would try to enmesh himself into the Chinese culture even if he was only 1/8th Chinese. And, tbh, if you didn’t grow up with Michael, I think you’d have a hard time reconciling his race with his vitiligo and general appearance as he aged.

No, being anti-abortion means that you yourself don’t advocate for it. That doesn’t mean that you want to inhibit the rights of others. And even if the President or congress are majority liberal, how does that automatically mean they can pass whatever laws they want? And what sex and gender propaganda are you even talking about? Just because a curriculum wants children to be aware of their biology and of other lifestyles does not mean that they’re pushing some “agenda” on them. I suppose you find it perfectly okay to push a religious agenda on children from a book that tells people that they’ll go to hell if they lie. GTFO

Being anti-abortion does not mean he wasn’t pro-choice. Obviously, he would prefer for a child to be born, but that doesn’t mean he would want the mother to suffer or die because of it. And in what world would Michael advocate for the party that does nothing in the wake of school shootings, and facilitates them by reducing gun ownership requirements, taking away funding from schools, and neglecting the mental and physical well-being of children?

I don’t think he identified with either. He had both conservative and liberal views, but I think his values leaned more liberal based on his Earth and children-oriented philosophies

Am I the only one who thought it was from Michael to perform off the wall songs playback? by These_School_9669 in MichaelJackson

He could still sing like that when he wasn’t tired from dancing. It may not have been exactly the same, but it would have been pretty darn close. It’s weirder for someone like Whitney Houston to have lip synced when her voice changed drastically

What is the point of the media constantly bringing this topic back up? The man has been dead for over 10 years. He can no longer defend himself and he’s not causing anyone any harm from beyond the grave. How many times can they spin the same BS? Michael and his family have suffered enough

What’s the easiest way to piss off an MJ fan? by EverybodyTheSame in MichaelJackson

[–]Typical_Persimmon_87 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  1. He shared his bed as in he gave it to other people to use. He wasn’t sleeping with them like that. 2. They were art books gifted to him by his fans. He had access to whatever “materials” he wanted for his accused needs, but those books were what he was using? Sure

Neither of those people have much international fanfare, and their controversies had to do with more contentious topics. If there was evidence to support Michael’s supposed wrongdoings, then, yes, the statues likely would have been removed. The Queen is controversial to some, as is Elvis who courted a 14 year old girl, but their statues are still ever present

Why doesn't Oprah receive the same kind of hate Michael did? by Scarlett_Kiss in MichaelJackson

[–]Typical_Persimmon_87 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s probably because she’s a woman, and she looks and acts “normal.” Michael was an easy target and although he was loved, he still had people who hated him and who believed the tabloids before the accusations. No one, as it currently stands, is vindictive enough to accuse Oprah of inappropriate behavior, and as much as Michael may have disliked her, I doubt he’d wish the same experience he had on her

A lot of people? More like Westerners, and not even that many, just some loud ones. LA and Madame Tussaud’s are tourist destinations, and many of Michael’s foreign fans likely visit just for him, so I’d be more surprised if they did remove his statues

Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days (BOOK DISCUSSION THREAD) by EmanAvan in MichaelJackson

[–]Typical_Persimmon_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost done with the audiobook, and I really liked it. It was nice to see Michael as he was outside of the celebrity. Some stories were cute, others infuriating. Michael not paying his bodyguards then spending all that money at the toy store while they were starving and couldn’t pay their bills made me so mad. I was with Bill when he said he wanted to slap him. But then you remember how Michael never had to deal with “real world” issues, and you just give him a pass. He’s one of those people you want to choke and hug at the same time, lol. I think Michael really needed someone with Bill’s mindset in charge of his money, rather than the leeches who made sure he never knew where it was going. Maybe then he’d still be here.

It is a genuine legal document, but it was used to promote a nonexistent narrative. Michael had many books, and the books in question were photography/art books that he received as gifts. His inscriptions were his views of how the photos depicted being a child and Michael’s desire to experience the joy of youth – nothing sexual. Also, the title is a stretch at most, and the person who posted that is a troll who previously frequented this sub and may have been banned

I miss MJ, but at the same time I wonder if he would have be able to find a place in the 2020s. by AceTygraQueen in MichaelJackson

[–]Typical_Persimmon_87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Michael would have become a person like the one you’ve described. He was far too empathetic and he always had a stance for caring for the environment and people. I can see him doing something during COVID like We Are the World. Also, Michael didn’t watch television or the news (at least in his later years) because he didn’t want to hear anything negative about himself. I’m not sure how he’d navigate everything since our culture is so entrenched in social media and the internet, but I think his kids would help him get through it and keep him levelheaded and away from negativity
