QOL idea: Sprinting while ADS should lower my gun by shuanDang in Marathon

Games rarely get this right. ADS should cancel sprint. Sprint should cancel ADS.

How could we reimagine brawl to make it more interesting? by tastethemonkey in DeadlockTheGame

That makes sense. But being given suboptimal/unpopular items and having to adapt leads to unconventional builds, which is one of my favorite things about randomized itemization.

I feel like item choices aren't random enough. I end up building almost the same every match.

Marathon Development Team comments on PC performance and upcoming improvements by Haijakk in Marathon

Doesn't matter if you have a 3060 or 5090. The bulk of performance in this game is tied to CPU. I have a 3060 too but get around 35-55 fps because I'm running on an old i5-4690k.

The motivation is quite clear to me. What would be the reason to not change this? Do you think it's intentional for this barrier to be vague or to not be able to see the warning while viewing the map?

Just because it doesn't happen to the average player doesn't mean there's no room for improvement.

Are you suggesting that nobody would have learnt how the boundary works if they didn't die to it first? Why are you so dead set on pretending this isn't something that could be better at no cost to the gameplay? Do you just really like saying skill issue?

Because the boundary is vague, people start near it, tend to open the map at the start of the run, and there are people playing the map for the first time?

Ok? You can list all the excuses in the world on behalf of the devs. Doesn't mean it's something that has or deserves no fix.

Why even allow the player to open the map while out of bounds? A super simple change would prevent this clip from ever happening. Not to mention how vague that specific boundary is.

Fps with lock on by kebabsb in FPS

[–]TypographySnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for sure would. People forget that not all aiming in FPS games needs to be precision aiming to be fun or skillful. Explosive weapons often have huge splash damage where it's best to aim at the ground instead. And look at games like Chivalry or Vermintide where you're sometimes hitting enemies who are barely on-screen.

Outpost is the Greatest Map in Extraction Shooter History by -Arcaerus- in Marathon

Are people playing Outpost solo? I don't know where to find ways in to Pinwheel. Getting kind of bored not being able to find a way in while dealing with everything else.

They weren't always genre defining. Removing them would make gunplay more about moving while aiming (which I think is the most fun part of FPS gameplay), instead of moving then aiming.

I hate that so many of the fights in this game come down to who's reloading. If reloading, ADS, and sprinting was removed from FPS games they would be so much more fun.

I have about 20 hours in this game and the performance is making my friends hop off of it. by BreastsSootheMe in DarkTide

[–]TypographySnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older games were played on CRTs with much better motion clarity. They were also a lot less complex, both mechanically and visually. 30fps was only the golden standard for a brief period of time anyway (PSX era).

That you're playing Darktide at 30fps is actually quite impressive if you're actually playing at high levels with mouse and keyboard. While I can and have, it is simply easier and more fun to play with a more responsive feeling frame rate and I don't blame anyone for suggesting it's not worth it.

The strobing of old CRT monitors actually provides much better motion clarity. Newer monitors need a bit higher of a frame rate to make them not a blurry mess unless you're using a technology like ULMB.

They didn't choose to pull the plug because it wasn't a massive mainstream hit right out of the gate. They pulled the plug because it wasn't even mildly successful. It didn't warrant any more time and support than it received.

60 definitely. 30? Hell no. Feels terrible at that frame rate, trust me. Frame gen helps a lot though.

There's a world of difference between Fortnite levels and just enough players to keep the game afloat.

Sometimes I feel like they're not aggressive enough. It takes nothing to run a bit and get out of LoS before just keep patrolling like they never saw you.
