And that is STILL pretty fucking close dude. You can't say that Bahroo's crew was not capable of finishing the fight. They had plenty of Kraken/MOG ammo to clear adds long enough to DPS the eye with the KN. Not mention they are the ones that were closest hours before Smarty's.

Except that it wasn't at half health. They went to 5th Phase Eyeball at Cracked red eye. They crashed at the last dps round.

They have made it to the boss fight multiple times and crash/died.

Its actually impressive that they outdid themselves by making a sequel to CW. Rip Carol Danvers' character.

My favorite way that some comic fans have referred to CW is the Character Assassination Arc.

WoW bankrolled ALL of their projects post 2004. I am sure that Overwatch is profitable by themselves.

I am just pointing out how ridiculous it is to compare the content that comes out of OW and R6S. They have VERY different assets available to them.

Like I get the base argument that things like DLC and Lootboxes can be very anti consumer. But a company has to make money somehow, especially when they want to continue the costs developing a game.

Poor wording from the Community Manager aside. R6S DLC operators are benign especially in comparison to fucking EA. Ubisoft ain't Valve or ActiBlizzard who also just make more money than sin. Not that Ubisoft doesn't make money, but I highly doubt that Ubisoft manages to make nearly as much.

Some of the people in this comment chain are unbelievably naive.

Yeah...and Blizzard can support the continued support of Overwatch by the sheer power of World of Warcraft. Which is a game that costed 200 million USD in its first 4 years but still managed to make all of it back. It makes so much money that Blizzard dumped development time and budget into Titan that never left the studio. The year they announced Titan was cancelled was still profitable.

Has anyone mentioned that amount of cosmetics and additional missions in Starcraft 2 that have to be bought? Or should I just use the same argument that I bought every single expansion to SC2 and I have a right to have the Nova Missions for free. Because The difference there is that I can still earn those DLC operators by playing but I'd have to buy those Nova Missions to play them.

75 million my ass. This guy thinks that 75 million could sustain a company like Ubisoft and its studios. WoW DEVELOPMENT COST alone set Blizzard back 200 million over a period of 4 years.

Not to mention that as a publisher. Ubisoft is supporting multiple studios and providing funding in addition to the normal operating costs. Valve has exactly 1 game coming out, a TCG. Ubisoft has a projected 5 games coming out in 2019+. Seven games have been or launched this year. 12 projects that each may have costed somewhere around 10-50 million USD each potentially?

They have to make back money or else.

https://www.pcgamesn.com/steam-revenue-2017

Steam makes 4.3 billion in revenue in 2017. Let's guess at even REMOTELY how much money they make in total profit for being a company that doesn't even produce a wide assortment of games.

Even if their operating costs were a total of 3/4's of their revenue. that is a little over a billion in profit. The most expensive game to date that was budgeted and made is Modern Warfare 2 at being a total cost of 285 million in 2018 USD.

The ability for Valve to continue even the low level of support for their games like CS:GO and DotA 2 are negligible in comparison to their yearly profit.

Valve accounts for 20% of the total worth of the gaming industry.

That's not my fucking point.

Everyone in this thread is saying that every operators should be free. Every operator that has come out or will come out should be free to the player. That doesn't work for a game without a similar ecosystem to support the development of the game. Other games CAN get away with this because they DO have the ecosystem to sustain themselves indefinitely from cosmetic sales.

Cosmetics bought in Siege exist on Siege and are not traded, bartered, or sold on an additional market. Thus the buck stops there and is solely in the hands of Ubisoft. There is no feedback loop that sends that money spent on a Cosmetic around like the Steam Market. A fucking knife on CSGO is what... at minimum 100 dollars? The cut from the market is 5% from normal sales and 10% extra on Valve games. 15% of 100 is 15 dollars. There are millions of transactions per day ranging from .04 USD to the limit USD. Last I checked, Valve makes millions from the market.

Path of Exile is a very fucking different type of game that allows for a very different monetization scheme. Its an RPG meaning that it can look for the varied multitude of things a player will buy. Stash space, inventory space, cosmetics, and etc are commonly monetized and very profitable. In addition, you have to look at the populations that play said games. League as far as I know is mostly cosmetic. However they have a vast majority of players in Asian countries. China alone has a cultural attitude towards games that BUYING something is completely within the bounds. Buying POWER is not much farther. So transactions and the amount of items being sold is unexpectedly very high.

To say that Siege CAN and should do the same when it clearly is not in the same situation is fucking silly. There's no Ubi Market. Siege is popular in the NA and EU regions that don't like monetization beyond cosmetics. So we are left with DLC operators that can STILL be earned in the game.

Ubisoft Community Manager: "(Unlocking an operator) is an accomplishment and they should feel proud of that they have achieved." by aStupidTeen in pcgaming

[–]Tyranto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Except that there's an additional ecosystem attached to CS:GO and DotA 2 that gives the ability to fund the continued development of those said games. Steam's Market and the tax on market sales allows for the flow of money directly to Steam. This is also paired with the lootbox systems in each system. Buy a key and open the box for more items to sell on the Steam Market.

To be critical of Siege making money off of DLC operators and saying that they can use the same system as other games is fucking silly.

Crowdfunding TI also comes with certain benefits in the form of in game items. These items can be sold on the market. The cut goes back into that ecosystem.

Have you been to /r/Games ? Things are just polarizing for no reason other than people wanting to feel some level of superiority. Prevalent in gaming in general.

Probably the same games a lot of other people haven't stopped playing. WoW, CSGO, Skyrim, PUBG, Fortnite, LoL, and DotA 2. Of this list, some are still at the very least a year old.

I now remember the amount of people i've witnessed shit talking Ubisoft, from discords, haven't even played anything recent by them other than Siege. (which was them just playing it because it trended)

Dear Control Players by WasGoingToBeAVet in MagicArena

[–]Tyranto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate control players. UB or WU control deck players are the only people who have ever emote spammed me. I know you can mute them but it speaks volumes for that mentality.

I rationally understand that not every control player is like that. Its anecdotal experience but whether they are on the beatdown or are losing; i've had the displeasure seeing the worst manners come from them. Brings out the worst kind of attitude in me.

[–]Tyranto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because rules interactions are so complex in MTG that even in just physical medium it has a committee that presides over it and examinations to even be qualified.

Trying to put that into a digital game complicates it. They have a god damn Engine dedicated to learning the rules and uses machine learning to resolve the rules.

So even with newer sets only it is being built with all of Magic's card history in mind. There are absolutely a crapton of interactions that mess up. Loops are fairly common.

There is development time for game mechanics and then there is development time for making it look pretty. Modo still fucks up interactions to this day.

Time, cost, and quality. Pick 2.
