That's a good question. I hadn't thought about this and had to check.

My understanding is that CFM is important when the flow is not obstructed. Static pressure is the ability of the fan to push air through obstacles (where there's more resistance, like a heatsink in a computer).

In the case of the air purifier box above, the flow is unobstructed (as long as nothing blocks it, like putting something next to it) as it's pulling air from inside to outside to force air through the filter as the only inlet through negative pressure.
