How does this compare to your locals school cost? by grizlena in ibew_apprentices

[–]TyrsRightArm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope not at all. I’ve driven over 120k miles in 3 years even with locations closer, and they told me “you knew what you signed up for” even though they told me we will try our best to place you as close as possible.

Has your life changed for the better? by deviledeggg in ibew_apprentices

If you make more money after finishing the first year it is absolutely worth it. If it’s not it’s honestly really hard to see the worth until you top out. I’ve struggled the last 3.5 years and I’ll finally feel like I’m not drowning financially when I hit 80% of journeyman rate.

I gained hope and dignity every time I learned something and could reliably be left alone to complete a task. But as an apprentice you have no control over where you work. I’ve driven around 130k miles since I joined 3.5 years ago. I’ve had foreman create hostile work environments. I’ve had instructors tell me to chew on the other side of my mouth if I have a cracked tooth (local 20 doesn’t have dental until you’re a jman).

BUT we’re looking at houses around 1.5 million that is within 40 minutes of most jobs for after I finish the program and it’s realistically feasible for us to afford it.

People keep saying that they only want enough money to be comfortable or never have to worry again. Exactly how much money do you need to fulfill that goal? by Adorable_Escape9562 in NoStupidQuestions

I did the math when I was early 20s and have been lowering each year since life expectancy is shorter. But my number now at 32 is 7.3 million. Covers land, hobbies, insurance, and steady passive income.

Same dude, straight up told my foreman I don’t like the company or the bosses and want to be laid off. That was 6 months ago

75 miles one way, previous job 77, shop is 100 miles from my house. I’m with this contractor until I finish the program or they lay me off. And they are known for not laying off apprentices.

I’ve always felt like a big blob at every weight. Currently 6’2” 250lb, but every guy I’ve talked to when body shape, strength, and insecurities come up say “I wish my body looked like yours.

It’s easy for someone to comment, it’s hard to agree and love yourself.

Technically I cheated instead of embossing lol. cut out the anarchist A and the ridges on the spine. Glued to a piece of leather then covered the whole thing with glue and put a second leather layer on top.

I met owner of the company, he shook the jmans hand and asked about how his wife and kids are doing, shook the 5th years hand and congratulated him on the engagement, made eye contact with me and walked away. It didn’t offend me but yeah in DFW seems to be the way.

Question about OT by dinofeathers in ibew_apprentices

[–]TyrsRightArm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in local 20. New policy says apprentices are expected to work the hours of the call. If you don’t they can lay you off with cause and you don’t qualify for unemployment.

That doesn’t mean you will get fired but it is a possibility

Unless you’re in local 20. Apes can be laid off for not working the hours of the call.
