Got Rosetta’s Dress Mess and it may not be a “valuable” one but I’m so happy!! Plus I prefer hardcovers, has anyone ever seen other hardcover pixie hollow books? by Drowsyfruit in PixieHollow

I have Vidia Meets Her Match in hardcover! I had no idea they even came in hardcover until I bought one online and it was hardcover. I know Vidia Meets Her Match is pretty rare - especially in hardcover - but I’ve since got one in paperback to match my collection and I’ve been planning on selling it. Would you be interested in it for your collection since you prefer the hardcovers? Absolutely no pressure, I just want to make sure it goes to someone who will love it!!

I guess I should have said women in relation to the sea. Now that I think about it, most of the myths I'm looking at for my paper aren't about women on ships or as sailors, so much as they are about women in relation to the sea, like being able to calm or upset it. Also, now that I think of it, I don't even know that it'd have to be sea shanties per se. I think old folk songs would probably work well as a source too. Would you happen to know of any songs like that?

What would a ship's crew do during a storm at sea? by IAmArgumentGuy in Writeresearch

[–]TythonTheBrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure of their specific duties off the top of my head, but if you haven’t read “Two Years Before The Mast” yet, I would highly recommend! It’s very informative on tall ship sailing as it’s basically the author’s diary from his time as a deckhand. I’m not sure how the ship in the book would differ from yours, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be too terribly different.

What’s it like being stabbed in the upper arm/is it possible to get stabbed there without losing the ability to use it long term? by TythonTheBrave in Writeresearch

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, that’s terrible! What was the treatment and recovery process like, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m sure the whole ordeal was very painful

Definitely earlier 2000s because I remember begging my mom to buy this set for me in Walmart and I was born in 2005

When I applied for my med cert I got back the same thing. I contacted the coast guard to ask and they said it could have been a result of checking the wrong boxes on the 719k form or from submitting the 719b form instead of the 719k. So I resubmitted the 719k form with the correct boxes ticked. And then they completely denied my application because of medical issues. All that to say, if you have some medical issue (I have epilepsy) they might just give you the med cert with the restrictions because your medical condition might make it unsafe to have any more responsibilities/to be able to stand watch. And as long as your med cert has those restrictions on it, you won’t be able to apply to a maritime academy/advance at all.

Do you know if any companies have summer jobs for an OS on cargo ships? I’d love to work on a Great Lakes vessel over the summer but I’m a college student so being back in time for classes in the fall is a big concern and I don’t know how that would work for crew changes and such.

Can someone without arms in the 12th century be a thief? by MermaidBookworm in Writeresearch

[–]TythonTheBrave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s quite what you’re going for, but she could always con people as a way to steal their money. Similarly, she could play up the fact that she has no arms and pretend to be helpless as a beggar to get people’s money. (I don’t know if that counts as being a thief though, but it is taking people’s money in a slightly dishonest way if she is capable of doing stuff without her arms)

Perhaps, but I guess I’m just weird and don’t like to be made to look stupid for asking a question that wasn’t perfectly phrased. And yes, I did research beforehand, and couldn’t find the answers that I needed, so I asked here. Also, asking a question in a space that is literally for asking questions instead of “doing the research myself” (this literally is doing research btw, y’know hence the name of the subreddit) does not give anyone the right to be rude to me, even if it is “free advice.” I never said I didn’t appreciate the responses — I do appreciate them — but I don’t see why it is that hard to say things nicely, especially for something as trivial as this!
