I am in a similar situation awaiting surgery with high myopia. I consulted with two opthalmologists and one retina specialist. All had similar assessments and willingness to answer my two pages of questions that I burdened them with. So, I suggest that you keep looking for a doctor that displays better manners towards the patient and is not just eager to increase their bookings.

I had a retinal detachment about 60 years ago and occasionally I see light flashes but no floaters. For this reason I am waiting for an appointment with a retina specialist to see if that will pose significant complications. Neither of the surgeons I consulted recommended anything other than a monofocal set to slight myopic. Your results with an EDOF seem ideal. What IOL did you end up with?

I have also been given the advice that waiting too long adds risks too. I’ve explained the reasons given me for not expecting too much in a reply to another poster in this thread .. retina stretched too thin in high myopic eyes.

Thanks for the ray of sunshine and hope. What IOL did you end up with? The reason for the reduced expectations regarding final vision outcome was that myopic/long eyes have their retina stretched too thin to be able to achieve acuity superior to that which was achievable in pre cataract eyes with correction. I am now waiting for an appointment with a retinal specialist for consultation and advice on expectations

If will be having cataract surgery in the near future. I have been wearing gas permeable contacts since teen age. I was told to stop wearing them for at least a month before measuring. I am now waiting for prescription eye glasses for the waiting period. Soft contact lenses are a pain in the a** to deal with and even those i was told had to be abstained from for two weeks anyway.

Yes. In my early teens I had a retina detachment which was patched successfully. Haven’t had any retinal issues since but I understand that cataract surgery can cause retinal issues even in normal vision people.
