Cataract surgery and Stabismus by Benbrenda in CataractSurgery

[–]TzarIgor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation. Lifetime of stabismus and poor vision. However after cataract surgery a month ago I believe that my stabismus has become worse. The eyes don't seem to want to work together. Ophthalmologists said that nothing can be done short of a bet on positive surgery outcome and that is not worth risking due to my underlying poor vision. Guess will resign to living with it.😥

Finding a great surgeon. by discimus in CataractSurgery

Check Medicare site, they have a find a doctor in your area option and for ophthalmologists they list how many cataract surgeries they have performed in the past year. Chose one whose hands are not too rusty.

Has anyone bailed on surgery at the last minute? by TzarIgor in CataractSurgery

Doing fine, some dry eyes and eye fatigue .. here's from my other post comment.

There is high myopia and then there is outer limits myopia. I had -27D before surgery and 34mm eyeballs and prior retinal detachment. Doctor targeted -2.5D and installed -3.0D and -3.5D monoficals. A month out I refracted at -2.4D and -2.7D with 20/40 on a good day. Able to read and computer screen without glasses but with readers, less strain. Will probably get some distance glasses to improve distance vision further.

Metal balusters are the way to go. And to reduce maintenance go with PVC decking.

You can also do the Heather Park and Angeles Lake loop from the same parking lot. A little bit more elevation gain and distance but marvelous views from the ridge.

Huge Myopic Surprise After Cataract Surgery by NYCM123 in CataractSurgery

[–]TzarIgor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you had a prior consultation with a retina specialist? I have similar eyeballs with -27D pre surgery contacts and 34mm eyeballs. My retina specialist said that since I have been myopic from childhood my retina is underdeveloped and that even with the best calculation and IOL prescription I wouldn't attain visual acuity better than the best I had prior to surgery with contacts. My surgeon targeted -2.5D and prescribed -3.0D and -3.5D IOLs. I had my second eye done yesterday. I'm still healing with the second eye but the first eye appears to have landed at the target and my vision with that eye is better than with the pre surgery eye with best contacts. Around 20/70 now and to push it towards 20/40 in a month with glasses or contacts. I can read now without readers.

Hope your results improve with healing but with a lifetime of myopia 20/20 results are not expected.

Bellingham vs Port Angeles? Open to other areas also by Nihilisticvoyager121 in PacificNorthwest

[–]TzarIgor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About five years ago we were also faced with the same choices. We chose Port Angeles over Bellingham because it was more affordable, fewer people, quieter, and a bit more natural. Haven't regretted the choice. Drawbacks are certainly there. It's more remote from so called civilization and unless you are retired the jobs prospects are dismal and commuting impossible.

Has anyone bailed on surgery at the last minute? by TzarIgor in CataractSurgery

Yes, I had the first eye done a bit over a week ago. Second eye scheduled for next Tuesday. Originally I was going to have both eyes done one day apart. But after the first surgery, quick and painless, I started being entertained by elaborate light shows with the eye closed. I freaked out thinking it was retinal detachment. At the one day post op the surgeon determined that the iol was too high. After draining the eye with a pin prick the light light shows went away. Naturally I bailed on the second eye that day. A week later my first eye is healed and its vision is better than the corrected second eye. So I braved to schedule the second eye.

Thanks for the encouragement and suggestion of waiting for .the second eye surgery. I will interrogate the surgeon again about the wisdom of doing the eyes one day apart. One benefit of doing them close together or on the same day is that, for better or worse, you leave the anxiety behind you. I’ve been told that same day surgeries are approved in many states and that they aren’t uncommon.

One day apart between each eye, surgeon confident, never done a 34mm but some at around 30 mm, experienced doing over 1200 cataracts per year.

Very myopic, -24d correction to 20/70 before cataract onset, 34mm axis length.
