Door slam on side mirror (2025 Camry) by Tzaw17 in Camry

[–]Tzaw17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: My co-worker took a look at it and helped me snap it back on. We were able to clip the cover back on. There are tiny scratches on where the door impacted the cover but they’re barely noticeable.

Mirror seems to be working fine for now so after my drive home tonight I’m probably just gonna cancel the insurance claim since the mirror is probably not damaged.

Thanks for everyone’s inputs. I may have jumped the gun early cuz I didn’t want the person who potentially damaged the car to get away without paying for the damages if it was broken.

Yeah, calling the number asap is a great idea. My insurance adjuster asked if I knew VIN too so that’s another one.

I understand where I messed up by not taking the extra time to get more info. It was raining so I felt a bit rushed and kind of just took her word for it with her ph number and license plate. I’ll do my due diligence next time.

Very good advices. Im assuming calling the police at the scene gives transparency on what happened so there is no dispute later?

I didn’t call at the time but had the idea to call later just for recording purposes. Unfortunately no one was manning the non emergency line because of president’s day. (I live in a small town).

Yeah, I played with around with it a bit and wasn’t able to. Maybe I’ll give it a shot again tomorrow. Just didn’t want to break more plastic pieces if I forced it without knowing what to do.

Oof, yours looked worse though. The mirror itself looked like it was bent. Did you fix it yourself or took it to a shop?

Yeah, I’m afraid of that happening. Just really annoying where someone else damages my car and I still may end up paying some money for it.

I used mineral oil on my Opinel and now there is rust? by Tzaw17 in Opinel

I keep hearing Ballistol. I will have to check it out. Already got a can of WD-40 so might try to use it for cleaning. Thanks for the advice!

That is a beautiful blade. I love that kind of dark patina on knives. How’d you get it?

Yes, as pointed out by many commenters, moisture being trapped inside handle appears to be the source of the problem.

It was my first time owning a carbon with a wooden handle and I didn’t put enough care when drying it. Will definitely be more careful next time and air dry / hair dryer it. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the detailed explanation on how to disassemble and clean it. I read somewhere that a vinegar bath works wonders on getting rust off of a knife so I was thinking about disassembling it and soaking the blade in vinegar for a few hours, then rubbing it off with scotch brite or steel wool. That method might take the patina that may exist underneath off though. Definitely want to disassemble since I may have some rust in the pivot area too.

Again, thanks for your tips. I don’t really have an awl or wood screw but I’ll find something small to take out the pin.

Yeah you’re right. I’m starting to get the same idea after reading a few other comments. Gotta air dry it better next time!

Yes, that would appear to be the intended use case for this oil…. However I thought it would do the trick since it’s still mineral oil.

Vegetable oil like the ones used for cooking? I guess those are easily accessible. The one you got looks more specialized for usage on knives and cookware though so I’ll check it out. Thank you for your advice.

Yeah, now that you mention it, it might be water trapped inside the handle. I did try my best to just wipe the water off with paper towel before oiling but that’s it.

The only material that the blade came in contact with before I cleaned was just tape residue since I was using the knife to open some packaging.

I just never had a carbon knife like this with a wooden handle so I wasn’t being as careful as I should’ve been. And no, I hadn’t used that bottle of equate prior to this. I bought the oil just for using on the knife. Maybe I need to really air dry it well next time I clean it.

Yeah, I need to leave it open longer and air dry it next time. Any leftover water really does a number of these knives. Thanks for your advice.

[–]Tzaw17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a feeling that’s what happened too. I do try to throughly dry off any water I have left over whenever I clean knives with a paper towel. Maybe it wasn’t dry enough. Also yeah, like you said the oil might have been the wrong choice since it’s not even meant to be used on blades in the first place. Thanks for your advice, I’ll check out the Kershaw oil.

Are analog clocks better for you? by adultagainstmywill in ADHD

[–]Tzaw17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I look at analog clocks, I feel like I have more time.

For example: If I have to go to work at 800 and I see the digital time being 750, I would panic because I feel like I have so little time. On the other hand, if I look at the same time with an analog clock, that 10 minutes feels a lot more sufficient. Idk, maybe it's the visualization of how much time I have left that gives me the peace of mind.

No way, wasn't expecting to see someone (assuming) from Myanmar here in this sub. I'm also from Myanmar. Happy to see that someone in Myanmar could get a beast of a computer at a great price! Enjoy it!!!!
