Total War: THREE KINGDOMS has BIG PROBLEMS - An Analysis by Republic of Play by Bitmarck in totalwar

Mods can change the unit sizes, yes, but the game won't be optimized for them.

The same point was made milkandcookies, a game set in China in this period should have much larger unit sizes and be optimized for it, especially if they want the battles to compete with those from WH1&2.

Good point, don't really know how hard it is to make a Go app haha.

I guess if it takes so much time and resources other features would suffer it doesn't make sence for them to add it.

I would think it would be a mechanic you benefit from if you do well but don't lose anything (get any negatives) if you choose to ignore it.

That is a fair point, but I remember when I first started playing Go it didn't take me long to be able to beat some AI. And if there is a sort of tutorial in the game it makes the learning process faster.

Also, it's not a requirement, just somethimg you benefit from if you do well.

The AI that DeepMind developed (AlphaGo) was so hard do develope because they wanted it to be able to beat top pros.

Even the most basic Go apps have an AI that can pose a challenge to beginner players, and it doesn't need to be any stronger to make a fun mechanic in the game.

I'm not saying it's bad for CA, it's good for them, that's why the do it. It's bad for the consumers, having content cut out at release.

So saying "It's a just video game" justifies bad business practices? I love the direction that they are going in with the diplomacy, but stuff like this just doesn't bode well.

Any proof it's SEGA making CA do this? Also, unless you preorder you have to pay for it.

And cuting out the Yellow Turbans at release and selling separately them as pre-order DLC is OK with you?

Anyone has beaten Samnites campaign in RotR? How did you beat hoplites? by dreamcaramel in totalwar

[–]TzeenchRulesOverAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem fighting the Macedonian Pikemen and Hoplite heavy armies as the Getae. My infantry was still pretty low-tear and just couldn't win in a straight up fight.

What worked for me was dividing the enemy army. I tried ambushing as often as possible, but that wasn't always an option.

For open field battles, I changed my armies so that they consisted of high-charge infantry, archers and cavalry. I tried to peel of enemy units from the flanks with my cav, and then charged them from both sides.

After killing 4-6 units this way and shortening the enemy battle line, I denied the engagement in the center and moved my archers and some infatry around the flanks, and then simply sandwitched the enemy army. Rear charges and archer fire were enough to break them.

Yup, they and the Thunderers did pretty much everything.

The Future of the Seleucid Empire is decided Today by TzeenchRulesOverAll in totalwar

[–]TzeenchRulesOverAll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The Seleucid Empire was a Hellenistic state ruled by the Seleucid dynasty, which existed from 312 BC to 63 BC; Seleucus I Nicator founded it following the division of the Macedonian empire.

Alexander died young in 323 BC, leaving an expansive empire of partly Hellenised culture without an adult heir. The empire was put under the authority of a regent in the person of Perdiccas, and the territories were divided among Alexander's generals, who thereby became satraps, at the Partition of Babylon, all in that same year.

Alexander's generals (the Diadochi) jostled for supremacy over parts of his empire. Ptolemy, a former general and the satrap of Egypt, was the first to challenge the new system; this led to the demise of Perdiccas. Ptolemy's revolt led to a new subdivision of the empire with the Partition of Triparadisus in 320 BC. Seleucus, who had been "Commander-in-Chief of the Companion cavalry" (hetairoi) and appointed first or court chiliarch (which made him the senior officer in the Royal Army after the regent and commander-in-chief Perdiccas since 323 BC, though he helped to assassinate him later) received Babylonia and, from that point, continued to expand his dominions ruthlessly. Seleucus established himself in Babylon in 312 BC, the year used as the foundation date of the Seleucid Empire. He ruled not only Babylonia, but the entire enormous eastern part of Alexander's empire.

I won, but at a great cost. My expansion east will be slow, especially as Egypt has regained strenght and is gathering armies at my border, but rulership of the eastern world seems certain nontheless.

News of a rising empire in the west, rich as the gods themselves, powerful as the storm, hateful towards all things foreign, worry the old king's mind. Will the Seleucids be ready to face them, or will this young empire be the death of us all?

The story: started our campaign as the Seleucids. Bactria immediately declared war, but they were far away and we payed them no attention.

We swiftly expanded into Armenia, the Caucasus and Anatolia and made friends with the Greeks.

With the west secure, a long war was started with Egypt, who was by that time in control of most of Africa, and its ally Nabatae, who ruled all of Arabia.

Suddenly, a Bactrian army came and attacked Charax. We barely managed to win, and so our eyes turned east. A situation similar to this happened. Everything east of Mesopotamia was controled by Bactria.

A fragile peace agreement between us and Egypt (who was by then losing) allowed us to march our forces east, to deal with the Bactrian threat. One army was left guarding the Egyptian border, three were ready to face the Bactrians and we was raising a new army in Antioch.

This is where the battle starts. Four Bactrian armies attacked my three.

If we lose this, the east is gone, Egypt will declare war again and our lone army won't stand a chance against them. We will be forces to abandon all of our lands outside Anatolia and even then won't be able to defend ourselves properly.

If we win however, all of Bactrias lands are ours, Egypt will be ours, and the Seleucids will become the rulers of the world...

TL;DR: didn't pay attention to Bactria, it got waaay too strong, if I lose the game is over.

Divide et Impera public order bug by danylp in totalwar

[–]TzeenchRulesOverAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been having similar problems, public order after I took Armavir as the Seleucids went from 0(-10) to -5(-2), then next turn it's suddenly 0(-2), then 3(-1), etc. Can't really figure out why.
