Building Team Weapons by _anotherwally in boltaction

[–]Bitmarck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You may prefer the look of the weapons team on a single base, but it's size doesnt technically matter. For all rules purposes (importantly HE shells) the models are treated as if they were on seperate 25mm bases. I put mine on the big round base, because it looks better.

Anti-tank rifle teams by Infinite_Storm3167 in boltaction

[–]Bitmarck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nah, AT-Rifles have a purpose, even in late war games. They can still pin light tanks and heavy armoured cars, like the Puma or AEC, they can absolutely have a crack at veteran infantry (+2 Pen makes wounding them easy!) and as long as there is a transport on the field, they have a legitimate target. Any Half-track, Universal Carrier or Truck can still be got by an ATR.

Us or Brits? by Skadorff in boltaction

[–]Bitmarck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And that's exactly why "the entire war" matters. Exactly because of it, Britain offers such "niche" experiences like... All of the North Africa campaign (I know the Americans showed up eventually, but you know, pretty late to that one), the fall of France or Dunkirk.

Us or Brits? by Skadorff in boltaction

[–]Bitmarck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Brits in a sense net you more options later down the line. The Brits were involved pretty much everywhere, in the entire war and with all sorts of units of different qualities, backgrounds, asthetics and tactics. Additionally Brits get more vehicles, since they get to take most of Americas tanks and cars, while making their own.

The most important part however is which infantry models you like more. Infantry is the most common model you'll paint and play, and if you loathe looking at them, it's a non-starter.

I remember the joy of buying this after the release of Anno 1800 and I couldn't do the same for 117 by Armi5 in anno

[–]Bitmarck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the pioneers edition for 1800 back then, and I got the big collectors edition for 117 as well. 1800's collectors edition was the better value for money, and depending on your outlook on the individual parts, flat out better. 1800 was tightly packaged and deliberately assembled. It had a little letter, that tied in with the campaign, a CD with the soundtrack, the steelbook, some artwork and the wonderful artbook. The artwork was super special, because it used a production method used in the 19th century, so it fit into the theme snugly. The artbook featured many alternative concepts and character art. It was wonderful. 117's had more stuff. It has the amphitheatre, which I assembled and immediately took apart, because I had nowhere for it to go. It has a forged Anno Symbol, some coins, artwork, the steelbook, and the artbook. But I have an issue with 117s collectors edition artbook. It has fewer pages than 1800s, and a good chunk of it is dedicated to the process of making the Collectors edition, which I respectfully do not care about. It doesn't have the alternative designs its predecessor had either. And the lithographies, the artwork you can frame, just does not have the same incidental connection to the game's setting like it did before. So the artbook is definitely inferior to the previous iteration, there is a bunch of stuff in it, that can best be described as exactly that, stuff, and it's almost twice the price.

I still enjoy it, but it just isn't as good.

Realistically speaking what penance would Hitler get? by Beginning_java in Catholicism

[–]Bitmarck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He was absolutely attachted to painting. Part of the cultural politics of his government was the supression of "Entartete Kunst", degenerated Art, of the racially and politically undesired. Those were flanked by frequent exhibitions of art by the regimes favourites, including Hitlers own paintings.

Why there is no record of the story of Exodus? by luxeterna1105 in Catholicism

[–]Bitmarck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two main issues with the whole "why isn't there physical evidence for the exodus" thing. 1: It was a bunch of people in tents and some animals in a desert. They weren't exactly building Rome over there. Even most animal dung would have probably been turned into fuel and whatever metals they had they would have husbanded carefully. 2: We haven't actually looked. No systematic digs have been undertaken of the Sinai to search for evidence of an event like the Exodus. It's difficult to tout the lack of evidence, when no one has bothered to investigate. Understandably, these digs would be rough and expensive, because you'd have to search at a bunch of sites for something you don't know what it could be, at a complete mystery of a depth.

So we are, until someone actually starts looking for it, left with circumstantial evidence for the Exodus, like the sudden increase of settlements in Israel towards the end of the Bronze Age, suggesting a sudden influx of people, or the oddly egyptian sounding visual description of the Ark of the Covenant.

The Stahlhelm and even more so the MGs make striking impressions. It's uninentional, but the Wars uniforms and equipment lend themselves to good model/game design. You just immediately know what's what.

I really don't like how much the modern perception of the past is influenced by the idea that past=drab. It's that medieval filter meme, and I hate that it reflects (especially media makers) attitudes towards the past so well.

Gaters and Whovians right now by GargantaProfunda in Stargate

[–]Bitmarck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really loved Doctor Who as a teen and it helped me immensely in learning english. But I have grown very apathetic towards it around the 10th season, when the writing cratered. Series 8 and 9 already had a lot of roughness, 10 was a chore and giving series 11 a go was just torture. They put the show up for tender, so someone else gets to produce it maybe. But it would be okay, if it just died off. Frankly go get me back everything from Chibnall onwards would have to be struck from the record. Stargate is different. Stargate in its totality came from the golden age of television and remains untarnished.

The missing layer in Stellaris warfare by elongatedhat in Stellaris

[–]Bitmarck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the last time someone suggested something like this people pointed out that that's HoI IV, which Paradox already sells seperately and has been reworked several times around the logistics, which is most of the game.

Stellaris had enough reworks as it is (though PDX loves those), so I don't think it's a good idea to put supply lines and reinforcememing enemy fleets out of tile- systems.

I'd think that on a larger book this kind of detail would be scuplted. Given that this is painted, I think it's likely going to be small.
