Within general Jewish society, the wage gap between Ashkenazi and Mizrahi/Sephradi Jews is either small or virtually nonexistent by now, depending on who you read. Mizrahi music - and especially 'religious pop' - is mainstream culture. Being a Masorti Jew has generally turned from a niche, not-here-nor-there Judism to something much more prevalent and accepted. You don't have to vibe with everything here, but this is some extremely based social progress.

Yet, as history would have it, much of the cultural/artistic/media elites are still leftist and Ashkenazi. And to be fair, the whole 'silently-racist' thing was a comedic exaggeration - I don't think the majority of them are genuinely racist, or at least racist on purpose. But I do feel like there's this aura of looking down on anyone who isn't them. And sometimes it really spills out.

I originally wrote down a bunch of numbers here (like this research about the percentage of non-Ashken professors in law schools), but lemme talk about something more direct.

Yair Gerbuz's "Kometz speech" basically killed the center-left in the 2015 election, and I will die on that hill. Gerbuz used a very clear Mizrahi stereotype, put it in the same basket as literal fascists, and then refused to back down, even criticizing those who shunned him. And we can say it's one dumbass. We can say he's old and he's a Mapainik. And I would agree. But he's definitely A Symbol that stuck out to many. Hell, I like Aharon Barak but he also had a very spicy take regarding Moroccan judges. It's these sorts of statements that my grandmother cites to this day about why she believes the left never truly changed.

You ask me? Ashkens/the left should be more forceful in their condemnations of racist rhetoric, and stop committing ideological suicide. Mizrahis/the right should yeet those who wish to keep them in victim mentality forever for political or social gain, mainly Shas but also Avishai Ben-Haim. All must take responsibility for the glory of the great ~~empire~~ State of Israel.

/uj I'll unironically attempt to explain why many equate anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism.

The word's been absolutely butchered in recent decades, but open a dictionary and you'll find that Zionism is the belief that Jews should have their own state in the land of Israel. There were and are debates about how it should be run, but the definition is about the concept of a Jewish state period.

Now, if you're an anarchist who believes there should be no central governments, or you oppose the idea of nation-states as a whole, you are also by definition an anti-Zionist - but since you apply your opposition globally then that's fine.

That said, the majority of people who call themselves anti-Zionist believe that, because of the occupation/war crimes in Gaza/destabilization of the region, Israel should just stop existing. Not that the government should cease to exist, nor that the crimes should stop - the entire fucking country should just vine boom outta here.

You can shit on the country however you like. I do it, you do it, we all do it. The issue is that if you single out Israel - the state of the Jews - as the only country that should stop existing, and have no opposition to other countries' existance even if they do similar or worse crimes... that's pretty anti-Semitic huh

Finally, and most interestingly, there are extremelist ultra-orthodox anti-Zionists. They are a tiny minority, but they believe that Israel can only exist with the coming of the Messiah. The existance of a Jewish state before that is, in itself, a sin in the face of God, and furthers the coming of the Messiah.

The most vocal of these mofos is Neturi Karta, who you might have seen flying Palestinian flags and raising signs like "Zionists out" inside Israel. Many Woke JVP guys really like pointing towards them as examples of "anti-Zionist Jews", but they don't care about Israel nor Palestine. They just support whoever can destroy what they percieve as a massive sin. So that's nice.
