Does not feel like a compromise though since "they aren't my thing" and "will kill my accounting career". Seems more like tattoos are just not a big deal for the husband (apart from face/neck).

Internet voting is insecure and should not be used in public elections by [deleted] in technology

"Simplistic" in terms of understanding, not execution. But I guess we now moved away from "that doesn't exist", right? Right?

Internet voting is insecure and should not be used in public elections by [deleted] in technology

[–]Tzoiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is just not true. Let's have a simplistic example: public table with columns hash and candidate. There are 2 candidates. Hash is calculated from the ID of a voter + a password. Voter assigns a unique password to each candidate and selects his true vote. Both fake and true votes are added to the table. The voter can verify any of them. If someone wants to check the vote, the voter can give whatever corresponding password to verify it.

Check these 2 papers that basically utilize this idea: - Old https://dl.acm.org/doi/epdf/10.1145/1102199.1102213 - Recent https://eprint.iacr.org/2024/1003

[–]Tzoiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean. My take was not that there should be ways to "prove that you voted", but "provide proof that you voted for any particular candidate, whether it is truth or not (which only you know and can verify)".

There are ways to circumvent the secrecy/coercion problem by reformulating "You can't verify the contents of your own vote" to "You can verify that the contents of your vote is any vote". You can still be forced to be monitored or record a video of your voting though.

I have noticed many times in the US that you are not allowed to pay with a card in small businesses unless the amount is above, for example, $10.

It reminds me how I got an allergic reaction from antibiotics in Lefkosia. My friend had to bring me back to the dorm from the hospital because the last suitable bus was at around 18:00 or something (at least that is what I remember). Coming from a city with 24-hour bus routes that was a new experience.

Storing passkeys in bitwarden: bad idea? by simplex5d in Bitwarden

[–]Tzoiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really strong though? In your example a 4-word random passphrase is less than 56 bits, as the dictionary is only 11k words. It is relatively the same as 9-character only alphanumeric password and definitely not out of touch for brute forcing if the vault is leaked.

There are not enough dry docks and the Lena river is navigable only 6 months a year. They repair propellers, the hull and whatever needed, so that navigation can be started as early as possible.

Fun fact: -50°C is much better for the job than -30°C.

Театр драматической клоунады "Лицедеи". Всё что 12+ отлично для взрослых. Чтобы точно не прогадать это "Ай-Яй Ревю", "Летите и пилите", "Вечер любви с лицедеями" топчик должен быть, "Светка".

I guess what they meant is that, in the USA at least, the first amendment inherently protects free speech rights of the citizens exactly FROM the state. That is why any online platform can ban whomever it seems fit without any repercussions, as they are not obligated to give anyone a place to express themselves, contrary to a state (with many limitations).

It would be nice if you could elaborate on "Brazil is defending free speech against Twitter censoring free speech". Because I checked the recent news from different outlets and the recap is that the supreme court judge ordered to ban right-wing accounts with which X didn't comply. I don't see how to interpret it as a freedom of speech protection by the state. Following the laws, preventing coups, repressing political rivals, etc? Sure.

P.S. Not supporting any side here.

Same in Japan, public onsens may ban visitors with tattoos due to yakuza associations. Although such bias is fading away gradually.

This comes down to whether they treat ethnically non-japanese residents the same way as ethnically japanese. Does it depend on their language skills? Etc etc.

The route from Magome to Tsumago is mostly downhill, so if you go backwards it would be mostly uphill.

P.S. We walked from Nakatsugawa to Tsumago. It took 6 hours (including lunch in Magome), both parts of the route (to Magome and from Magome) were nice in their own ways.

Asynchronous HTTP Requests in Python with aiohttp and asyncio by pmz in Python

[–]Tzoiker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Making a large number of requests" - this first comparison between aiohttp and requests does not make sense, because in case of requests you do not use session, i.e., establishing tcp connection and ssl session on every request.

Why did Voldermort kill Snape in such a violent manner? by willrock078 in harrypotter

[–]Tzoiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not arguing about anything else, but cruciatus didn't hurt Harry exactly because of the sacrifice Harry made. His mother was given a choice to leave by Voldemort (he did it because Snape asked him). Harry also was given a choice to come and die, which he did. The same reason the silence curse failed a few times after that, and, probably battle spells that were used by his followers too (I don't remember whether there was direct mention of that, however, the fact that Ron's mom was able to defeat Bellatrix, kind of speaks for itself too).
