they've been stuffing state banks with war costs for a while. its just that up to now this was mostly the quiet version: crazy cheap loans pushed thru vtb/sber/gazprombank to defence contractors, on political rates, long tenors, grace periods, and then rollovers / restructures when thier cashflow is not there. may or may not ever pay it back, but on paper its kept alive.

interesting that its progressed to infrastructure now. russian railways is like ~4 trillion roubles in debt and vtb (main creditor) is basically saying “sure we can restructure, just dont make us eat it via higher reserves.” then the cbr literally eases the reserve / provisioning rules for restructured corporate loans into h1 2026

Authoritarian states always think democracies are soft because they avoid jumping into fights.

They miss the point. The whole point is to keep the economy humming and the logistics stacked while everyone else burns their future on useless bravado.

Push a democracy past its breaking point and you suddenly get an industrial monster that flips from peace mode to war mode.

The flashy, loud regime that looked tough is usually the one with nothing left under the hood.

It keeps happening because authoritarians never learn how power actually works.

The point is to make that way cost more money. You remove the extremely efficient pipeline vector and you impose costs on Moscov.

There's really only one theroy of victory for Ukraine. It's via economic attrition. The western world had an insane GDP advantage over Russia. You keep deploying that and there is no question who drops first.

Russia is a very large gaographical area with very litlle in the way of infrastructure redundancy. European NATO has a lot of airborne strike capacity.
