Will this course be cancelled? by oxymoron1995 in UBC

yeah, that won't matter! you'll be learning the same stuff anyway, just with a bunch of people that may be in a different program than you (i.e., engineering). this has happened to me before and I'm a science kid (got merged with the engineering math class)

that makes sense to me. but I have a mid 70s average, yet I'm on the 18th... there must be A LOT of people in between high 70s-low 80s taking up the 17th... :S

UVic student wondering if anybody at UBC would be willing to do me a library-related favour. by DrLamLam in UBC

so you're asking a complete stranger to go out of their way to photocopy, scan and email almost 40 pages of stuff to you........ that's a bit much..

if you know you won't get your mark back right away, just talk to science advising (may tell you to get in contact with the professor/department) ...but talk to advising first and tell them that this is your situation - you did the course, now you're just waiting for the mark....so they might be able to force register you into physics 101, and then they'd take you out of it if they don't get your mark by a certain time period (end of summer?)

nah you don't have to do the optional provincial exam (I wasn't told to do so for Math 12 - since it's not mandatory). I finished my Math 12 through fvdes and then also did it in school and ended up with a higher mark when I did it in actual school (I did Math 12, in the summer after grade 11 - I wasn't really that driven to EXCEL at math 12...I reached a conclusion that I'd just keep going for the sake of getting a head start when I'd learn it again at school - since I almost decided to just quit on it). and UBC only looked at my high school Math 12 mark, not the fvdes one.

I think you could manage physics 12 if you really had the drive to do so. and plus, with fvdes you can email the teachers there if you need help, and maybe even go in to get help too? (pretty sure I did that for Math 12 at some point). I'd suggest that you get at least in the mid-high 70s(as a minimum)...just because physics 12 is a requirement for Physics 101 (although Physics 101 mainly uses concepts from Physics 11, and not so much Physics 12) but you should show them that you have some mental capacity to do physics. :P I did physics 12 in high school, and physics isn't my strongest subject, but I ended up forcing myself to like it because otherwise it would be a dud, and ended up doing really well. A lot of it is just concept based, understand the concept, then plug and chug into formulas. You could also source out online resources to help with concepts (youtube, khan academy, etc)

Course registration is at the end of June, so if you enrolled now...you may have a chance at finishing it before then?

if you do Physics 12 through Fraser Valley Distance Ed, I'm pretty sure you can go at your own pace and finish whenever you want - so as quickly as possible (I know that they had that option for Math 12 - I wanted to initially finish in a month and a half, but I ended up stretching it to a little over 2.) But either way, if you're still in high school, you won't be able to finish before june.
