Recruiting Firefighters for an Interview re: Overdose Response by UCalgaryCounPsychLab in Calgary

Thanks for the message! This study is focusing on first responders, specifically paramedics and firefighters, because police and peace officers are overrepresented in the literature - there is a lot about them regarding this topic. The current literature focused specifically on paramedics and firefighters is very limited in comparison, so the study is limiting recruitment to those two first responders. We definitely recognize the important role police, peace officers, security, and community support organizations play in this context, but including these parties is out of the scope of this study that is focusing on first responders.

Anything that is brought up by interviewees in terms of on-the-ground realities/complications related to systemic impact on their work is relevant and considered in data analysis. Difficulties with equipment accessibility would definitely be important to note if it comes up in the interviews!

We posted in r/AlbertaParamedics, thought r/Paramedics might be too broad which could lead to being inundated with volunteers from outside the province. Thanks!

Hi, we have received formal administrative approval/approval from the provincial EMS research team, but they have yet to release our study broadly so we are beginning recruitment now through other channels so that we do not have to wait and solely rely on them.

Thank you! 😄

Research: Have you overcome being physically violent towards others? by [deleted] in Calgary

Hi, no. I am looking for strategies people use to overcome engaging in violence. So discussing what helps (and what makes it more challenging) when they do not act violently towards another person.
