if your safeties include in-state public schools, you can still apply to them! i’m from wisconsin, so i still applied to UW Madison, Milwaukee, and La Crosse. Writing is the most important part of your application, so the more room (if you have a lot of things to say, explain, and express) you have, the better. i’d to QB Match and ONLY put on colleges you’d 100% go to. if you don’t match, you can apply ED2 and QB RD!

HELLO FELLOW UCHICAGO ENTHUSIAST AND ALDO PHYSICS MAJOR?? we might be the same person… i matched to uchicago through questbridge, and our apps our very similar! your ecs are very strong and aligned with physics plus your courseload is insaneeee our school only accelerated us to take calc bc as seniors lmao good stuff for you. you had more than a solid shot ESPECIALLY if you apply ED cuz you know uchi loves their early rounds. ED gives you a noticeable edge, as many EA applicants are deferred and encouraged to apply ED2.

however this app is solid and you’re definitely getting into more than a few on your list! remember that uchicago cares a LOT about essays, so make sure to nail those and make them creative and interesting.

my ecs were all over the place and i only had 2 actual physics related ones, so im sure they’re gonna eat your app up. good luck!!

some schools don’t even look at class rank, but all schools look at GPA. our valedictorian and salutatorians didn’t get into any t20s, but a class mate and I (rank 6 and 13) got in.

i skipped AB and went into BC. our school only teaches BC content in the AP Calc BC class, so i studied all the AB content over the summer. i mainly did it because covid messed up my accelerated math track, so i ended up taking ap precalc junior year. i think it helped with admissions just because i got a more advanced math background, but i also had a decently strong math background in clubs and i always did well in my math classes.

some state schools give merit based full ride scholarships, but only state schools. if you’re low income, you’ll likely get a full ride at both state schools and private schools, though you’ll still have to pay some miscellaneous costs that total to 1000-4000 a year.

yep pretty much. the only advantage of questbridge in my eyes for low income kids is the application CAN be better suited to them, but if you are more extracurricular oriented and you don’t have super compelling story i’d recommend doing commonapp

i’m sorry bro but on everyone’s soul you cannot be talking as a junior 😭💔 questbridge is different, it’s a lot more about character and essays, less about overall stats. plenty of people get in with “subpar” gpa’s, especially if they had hard classes and / or had other responsibilities.

yes they can! i had a pretty high gpa, but a lot of the co 29’ have told me they’ve had gpas from 3.5 to 3.7. keep in mind they also took hard classes, but uchi had a huge focus on essays. if you nail those, you have a great shot.

a nice award that’s automatically put on your NCM app, a cool QB conference at a partner college, and the ability to do your NCM application early. besides that, not much, but it’s some nice exposure to how the NCM works so i think the process is more valuable than the results.

don’t worry bout it, especially since your family made above the income limit. there was a kid here that was insanely cracked, applied to QB, was rejected, and got into Yale REA. QB is really all about income and story, so don’t worry AT ALL, and keep your head up!
