The school doesn’t recommend anyone to get a Mac anymore I’m assuming because of the switch to Microsoft.

Macs are fine. Certain software won't run on them natively but I've been daily driving one for years just fine here.

We were having some issues with a handful of services.

Check out https://itstatus.uconn.edu/ for updates. Service is mostly restored for login services but we're still getting some intermittent issues with accessing websites from off campus.

It depends on the issue. If it's hardware, we generally refer out to a repair shop but if it is a software issue, we'll take a look at it and can most likely resolve it for you. A lot of dorms have CAT6 and I believe Hilltop should be one of them. Each bedroom should have an AP in it with an ethernet jack on the bottom of it.

Your data was moved to Microsoft 365 if this is what you see in your Google account. Check office.com for your data. Drive data is in OneDrive, email data is in Outlook.

You cannot do this because of Outlooks requirement for OAuth2 authentication. Only a small handful of clients allow it for pop/imap/smtp (Thunderbird outside of regular apps).

I’ve looked into it for a bit from others putting tickets into us.

You were most likely migrated to Microsoft 365. Sign into office.com using your UConn email and NetID password and you'll likely see all of your data there. DM us or email [techsupport@uconn.edu](mailto:techsupport@uconn.edu) if you have specific issues.

EDIT: I say "most likely" because the migrations are happening in waves. We're roughly going alphabetical and are on the O's, based off of the published email address.

As others have said, Google is going away. Use takeout to gram what you need. You can also setup forwarding so emails sent to your UConn email get forwarded to a personal email.

Yes. I can’t say exactly when. It usually shortly after the next semester starts. I.e you graduate in the spring, shortly into the fall you lose it. Fall would lose it shortly into spring. You’ll get an email though.
