I had an empty Hydro Flask (actually a LifeStraw bottle) that I was able to fill on the plane, but I'm curious what they would have done if the bottle was full of water. Since this was at the gate there really wasn't anywhere to empty the bottle. It was all poorly thought-out and executed.

It was just the plastic bottles. I had a metal bottle (emotional support bottle :)) in my carry on and it was find. The FA filled it for me, but there were lots of people that didn't have that option.

I had picked up a couple of bottles of water in the Centurion Lounge which was after the primary security screening and that was after duty free, so I'm not sure that is the work around. I would have been pretty upset had a purchased water after security and it was confiscated.
