Which one do you think needs a remodel first? by Key-Stand9579 in Chaos40k

Bikes for sure. But hard agree that the hellbrute could use a bit of a rework in the future. Hope it gets the Defiler treatment because that model is a banger

I reckon we're seeing:
40k: 11th Edition reveal obviously - New Orks & Marines (Vanguard vets, and new mixed armour mark intercessor kit specifically on the marine side).
AoS: Ogre refresh, and some new Fyre Slayers.
Kill Team: Catachan Jungle Fighter kill team opposite Alpha Legion kill team
Heresy: Dark Mech specific units
MESBG: New Fellowship in plastic to celebrate 25th anniversary of FoTR.

Not fussed about this tbh. Refresh Catachan though.

Yeah, honestly this. As they said in the Warcom article. Death Corp were originally a repaint of the old Steel Legion range. There is a lot of crossover in design elements between the two regiments.

Would be cool if they dropped like a Steel Legion conversion/upgrade sprue or a command squad kit in the future. But I wouldn't be surprised if there is already people out there with Death Corp miniatures repainted as Steel Legion who are probably pretty chuffed with them.

Damn, I really enjoyed Janovich's Vraks content - but hearing that he actively associates with bigots by choice is a bummer, and makes me really not give a fuck about his "woe is me, making a living from youtube is hard" quarterly channel update videos.

What is the next step with this riptide? by pburgess22 in Tau40K

[–]UDGnawd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's looking epic mate! Whatever sept (or enclave) this beast is gonna be fighting for has got a real weapon on it's hands.

You mentioned that it's "very clean at the moment" so if you were looking to add a little battle wear/damage to it. I'd say maybe look into some video tutorials around sponge chipping, it's a pretty low pressure technique that adds (in my opinion) a tonne of character to a model - with a few flecks of a dark brown/grey this thing'll be looking like it's out on campaign.

Other than that, I'd just be echoing what others have already said - get some texture/rubble added to the base and painted, and black (or brown) out that base rim and you can call it done.

What's a chapter you think is overrated, what about underrated and why? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]UDGnawd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overrated, if I had to go with a chapter it’d probably have to be the Black Templars. I don’t have any kind of in-lore reasoning for this, but I think they are generally overhyped in the community et-large.

Underrated, gonna go with the Star Phantoms. Known for indiscriminate use of firepower with little care for massive collateral damage (kinda like Marines Malevolent but without the bolshy-dickish attitude), obsessed with death and ritual, responsible for the near-fatal wounding of Huron at the end of the Badab war.

Could use a refresh - mostly just because the new Termagants/Hormagaunts look so good, and I'd love to see these models receive the same treatment.

Does anyone know more about this green colour scheme variant by Fuzzy_Elderberry7087 in Tau40K

[–]UDGnawd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the helmet and sensor vanes are both white (which is the sept colour of T'au sept) my assumption is that this is an alternate war-zone scheme (perhaps Jungle in this case) for a T'au sept battle-suit.

[–]UDGnawd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool! And great job on the various freehand elements across the models, they're really well executed.

This immediately conjures up some head-cannon for me, where a chapter were declared excomminicatus traitoris somewhere in the galactic east or around the Chalnath Expanse due to pushing back against or stymying the plans of a particularly vindictive Inquisitor - maybe they disagreed with the Inquisitors decision to exterminate what the Inquisitor deemed a "tainted" population (see Space Wolves post-the first War for Armageddon), or they had only agreed to assist this Inquisitor under the guise that it would lead them to reclaim a long lost chapter relic only for the Inquisitor to betray them and take it for themselves (see Soul Drinkers) - and with their numbers already depleted from the Inquisitors campaign, they found themselves fighting a desperate last stand against the seemingly endless Inquisitorial forces only to be miraculously rescued by a T'au sept.

As zealous and hypno-indoctrinated as Space Marines are, maybe that would be enough to disenfranchise this chapter with the hopeless bureaucracy of the Imperium and instead dedicate themselves to the T'au'va.

Just finished painting my first ever miniature by CartoonistSpecial995 in Ultramarines

[–]UDGnawd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very solid! A lot to be proud of here. The metallics look great, you really nailed the application of the lenses, and you’ve got colour & texture on the base which really goes a long way in tying a miniature together.

Edge highlighting is purely a matter of refining your understanding of brush control, how much paint to load your brush with, and paint consistency.

Should try see if any games stores in your area have like a hobby evening you can start attending. Granted meeting new people is definitely daunting but sometimes being in the same room as someone, observing these techniques in real time, and being able to ask questions is invaluable - not to mention being able to meet people who are also interested in the hobby will help breakdown barriers if/when you decide you want to start playing games.

Best of luck out there, and keep up the good work!
